Loved the thought provoking sensation the video referenced.

It gives you an idea of the scale of the galaxy which is 3000 light years thick where we are at. The first radio signals have only traveled about a 30th of that distance.

As a species its much more akin to having learned only how to fall in an not drown! In terms of consequential space travel, we can't even swim yet, let alone build a canoe!

These videos are amazing and really put the precious and rare nature of life into perspective...wars and politics and religions are DWARFED by the sheer scale of size...Stephen King very aptly described this in his Dark Tower Volume One: The Gunslinger. I forget the exact passage, but paraphrasing from memory the gist of it was that size is the true mystery of the universe and to truly grasp the distances and enormity of the universe is simply beyond our capability in the same way that a fish pulled from the sea is incapable of comprehending the place where the air chokes it and the light is blinding madness...Size overrides and sits above all, over possessions, over history, over time...

Thanks to all who posted the videos in this thread...I greatly enjoyed them.

the last few minutes are mind blowing- the comparisons to atoms/viruses and galaxy clusters/universe is wondrous:
