Amazon's Latest Threat to Brick and Mortar Stores? - Firefly

Last edited Sat Jul 12, 2014, 04:18 AM - Edit history (1)

So as more and more people start to 'shop' locally but actually buy elsewhere, what is going to happen to the jobs and businesses that operate as free zombie showrooms for Amazon and others? Will they wither on the vine from lack of sales from the very consumers that are visiting the store to window shop for things they order online?

There are some interesting functions in this, but it does make you wonder. Will Amazon eventually put out of business the very stores they are using as free virtual showrooms.... and if so, where will consumers point their magic 'firefly' phones at to shop? Just putting out there. I like the 'recognize artwork' and 'decipher phone number' aspects... but definitely this is aimed at making an online retailer lots of money, so anyway... posting for info

at least a little sniping at Amazon might be in order:

http://articles.mcall.com/2011-09-18/news/mc-allentown-amazon-complaints-20110917_1_warehouse-workers-heat-stress-brutal-heat

The 34-year-old Allentown resident, who has worked in warehouses for more than 10 years, said he quit in July because he was frustrated with the heat and demands that he work mandatory overtime. Working conditions at the warehouse got worse earlier this year, especially during summer heat waves when heat in the warehouse soared above 100 degrees, he said.

And it gets worse than that...
