(15,358 posts)But I'm sending them a check for $5 so I can monitor my bank account to see if it gets deposited. I want to see if they have the courage of their convictions.

(17,077 posts)That's sufficient to test their principles.

(15,358 posts)Would you cash a check for a penny? Dense as they are, they would see that for what it really is. I want proof that they actually cash the thing, and I think $5 is probably the base line.
TlalocW

(17,077 posts)They have to open it to see what the amount is. The point is to see if they value money over principle. My bet is yes.

(15,358 posts)But there are too many variables in play - they say they're going to put Return to Sender on the envelope, but it's possible that they might just throw it away or it could be lost if it's returned, etc. So if nothing happens - I don't get it returned, it could have been lost either way, or it's thrown away, etc. But if I see it's cashed then I know for sure what happened to it.

(17,077 posts)I just got back from the PO. One clerk asked the other if they could sell singles from the sheet, which makes me suspect I was the first to request a Harvey Milk stamp in my town, maybe (probably) the whole county.
Anything I can do to make the AFA waste time and effort is good by me.

(28,057 posts)I'll send them the graphic in the OP with a note that Jesus wanted me to send this to them. But let's keep in mind that if too many of us do the $5.00 check test and those checks get cashed (and odds are they will) we'll be helping these bigots.

Isn't it always thus?

(5,756 posts)Wouldn't it be fun to flood their mailbox with thousands of letters sent with Harvey Milk stamps. I'm game. Who wants to join me?

(5,376 posts)And use the suggestion to write "Donation enclosed" on the envelope, and don't use a return address label. Oh, and yes, flood them with e-mails that include the Harvey Milk stamp in the text. Subject line could be, Jesus told me to send you this message.
Yep, let's have some fun!

(5,756 posts)I particularly love the "Donation enclosed" idea and not using a return address label.
Damned DU'ers are such smart people. That's one of the reasons I love this place.

(426 posts)especially men, are just terrified someone might think they're gay, hence all the macho behavior and loud screaming about the gays. Too stupid to realize you're born with your sexual orientation, it's an insecure knee-jerk reaction. They should just get stupid tattooed to their foreheads.

What would you suggest; perhaps hair-stylist - ballet dancer - wait-staff?

(14,942 posts)Isn't there some reason to follow professions that are based on science and reality?
Most companies that want to spend money on wages are interested in people with skills based on reality. Not to say that there isn't room for people/professions that are into the psycho-realm but from what I've seen there are too many people trying to fill too many of these positions.
Let's try a few alternatives:
- school teachers - math, science, music, crafts
- computers - techs, programmers, repair, mentors, assistants
- writers (novels, documentaries, poetry)
- doctors/medical care specialists with emphases on mental health issues
- advocates for health care - even including people like lobbyists and politicians

(95,337 posts)It's like license plates - if you don't ask you'll get the standard issue plate that looks like 95% of the other standard issue license plate.
If you want speciality stamps like the Harvey Milk one then you need to ask for them.
I'd like to do a test - I'd send a check for $10 to AFA and see if they would still open the envelope to take the money or would they reject it because of a Harvey Milk stamp I put on it. Then I realized that AFA is not worth the $10.50 it would cost to try the test.

(12,448 posts)I can understanding "refuse to accept" if offered (otherwise known by sane people as: don't buy it if you don't like it). That's perfectly legitimate even if put awkwardly (aka stupidly). But refusing MAIL with the stamp? Are they kidding? If it's stamped with any variety of purchased stamp, it's likely something that's not direct mail (aka junk mail). Why on earth would anyoe want to send back personal mail because of a STAMP they don't like?
