(1,210 posts)crap.
He has been illegally grazing his cattle on federal lands for decades and it is now time to pay the bill. He doesn't own that land (he only owns his ranch), that land belongs to America.
And talking about terrorists Ms. Fiore, isn't Bundy now a domestic terrorist - threatening the lives of federal agents? He and his fellow "patriots" (who have shut down the freeway by using guns to threaten travelers should be housed in a federal prison somewhere for threatening the freedom of real Americans.

(14,656 posts)NV to collect the bill. That's exactly it. The federal gov't has other means like they tried in United States v. Hage or a lien on his homestead. All the conflict could have been avoided.

(29,067 posts)evasions, and attempted deflections of his other questions became obvious...I don't think she "held her own".

(3,056 posts)This has been going on for over 20 years. He has lost every court case. He owes the government over $1 million. HE is causing this problem. In 1993, he "fired" the BLM, and has refused to pay the same grazing fee that every other rancher in this country pays. He claims because his grandfather settled the land he can deal strictly with the State of Nevada, and bypass the Feds.
I live in the Moapa Valley where this is taking place. I got caught in the traffic jam last week caused by this standoff. Most of the people there were NOT locals...they were "militia" from Idaho, Arizona, Montana, and especially Utah. These brave "soldiers" had planned to put their wives and kids on the front lines so in case shooting started, the American people would see government agents shooting women and children. They were aching, praying, for a fight.
This has nothing to do with the way the government came to collect the bill...he has been given 20 years pay this. It has even less to do with the desert tortoise. He DOES NOT own the land where he is grazing his cattle. This SOB is taking money out of the pockets of every person in this country because that land belongs to US..the BLM manages it for us.
Yes, I think this assembly woman came off as uninformed and belligerent. But this is happening because this man, while waving the American flag around, states that he has not followed ANY federal law in over 20 years. He's a Tea Party loon who, when you get right down to it, hates the concept of the UNITED States of America.
Was there "government over-reach"? Probably. But again, NONE of this would have happened if HE HAD PAID HIS DAMN GRAZING FEES!!

(198 posts)Someone here may know this but my guess is BLM officers carry firearms as standard operating procedure. There are other predators beside humans there in Clark County. Overblown by the rancher not the feds.

(34,661 posts)Had to go to St Fucksville on Saturday. Notice the same thing you seen. License plates were mostly from Utard,Arizona and South western Montana. Really have to thank the State Patrol for trying to keep the traffic moving. Bad enough with all the construction happening on I-15,then throw in this TeaBillie rally.
Don't know what to tell you man, dealt with this man from time to time in a retail environment, what a self centered egotistical person. As far as our infamous Assembly person, she is just as stupid as the rest of our TeBillies and just cashing in her chits. As long as the public remains ignorant of the facts,we just keep posting the facts and hope the stupids finally wake up and realize we are on to their game of ripping off the populace.

(285 posts)He has to remember that those on the right are mean selfish delusional individuals who hate the Government except when they find themselves in a crisis and need help. The woman was on her game; she twisted Chris' words, and made him look like semi fool.

(3,056 posts)I like Chris, but as an advocate, he basically sucks. Maybe it's just that interviewers on our side of the aisle are fairly polite and don't "talk over" the people they're talking to, but it seems that sometimes he is so determined to make his own point, that he lets fairly egregious statements stand unchallenged. He tried pressing her on a couple of issues, but basically let her rant without addressing his question, and that happens WAY too often in his interviews. I guarantee this interview is being seen on conservative sites as Chris getting his butt handed to him.

(590 posts)While use of force by Feds against an individual is not okay, this Bundy announced he would have his own 'armed militia', so what Fed agent is going to show up unarmed and without backup is the question, which is what Chris was getting at. She sounded like a stubborn, weak-minded airhead.
And eventually cut and ran.

(1,363 posts)He is not the guy for the job. If you are going to debate the fringe teapubliKKKans, bring a gun, not a knife, to the gunfight. How about getting Stepahnie Miller a show on MSNBC. At least she calls 'em like she sees 'em. Sorry chris, you gotta bring your 'A' game if you want to make a point.

(1,782 posts)She said "Lien the cows. Lien the property" and he said "I agree with you." I think he was agreeing to both parts.
But it's *federal* property. That's why there's a grazing fee. Doesn't make sense to impose the lien on the party to which the debt is owed.
OilemFirchen
(7,143 posts)Nonetheless, lien is not a verb. Not surprising from her, who also thinks that "blaten" (20 seconds in) is a word, but shame on Chris.

(6,829 posts)what a magnificent useful idiot. I doubt she even knows who's interests her point of view is serving?
And she needs some coaching on how to be more effective with THE GISH GALLOP when shes being interviewed on tv.
Can't good old fashioned moderated debates come back in style? This "rudest loudest most aggressive and obnoxious talking head wins game" is pretty unfair. And it also poisons the debate with fantasy propaganda instead of facts. Yelling your points do not make them true or correct.
Bring a 100 round fully automatic next time, Chris. Your Second Amendment rights will support you to the fullest.

(2,065 posts)This assembleywoman, it seems to me, is trying to score some political points and make some political capital with her base. And she also probably realizes that her base doesn't appreciate the finer points of logic and erudition, either, so she doesn't waste her time on that. All that her base understands is a trigger happy pseudo-machismo against the federal government, which is, more often than not, fueled by subliminal racism against the man in the white house. Talk about subliminal racism - this lady, it seemed, when questioned by Chris Hayes, valued the lives of Bundy's cattle above those of immigrant humans.

(5,106 posts)recruiting teachers back east. Newly divorced and unemployed as a teacher, I had my name with an agency and Clark County contacted and interviewed me in Pittsburgh. They gave me an application and told me to only submit it if I was truly prepared to move out there. I had only been to Las Vegas once, and felt the desert area shown while coming in by air, was pretty barren and depressing. I appreciate that many people adore the desert, but if you're used to greenery, large bodies of water, with Lake Tahoe (nice as it is) your only choice, the answer was simple. In addition, I'd further uprooting a early teenage child. This may seem off topic to the Bundy situation, but I'm pretty sure the beliefs of those who make their homes in such areas are far different than most who work in the government in general. I'm not sure how good the cattle grazing is out there, but then I know nothing about it. I do know that this man had contracts that he chose not to honor while claiming he doesn't recognize the U.S. government. Then again the state of Nevada does, so he's saying....

Even our beloved Rachel is mostly just preaching to the choir. And top of that, she's boring to watch.
