(23,521 posts)She just kept asking questions and didn't challenge his answers at all. I would think she could think on her feet better than that.

(8,084 posts)once she realized what she was dealing with she decided to give him all the rope he needed to hang himself.
He was doing his own damage, he didn't need her help.
Also he was not trying to answer her questions at all.
But I do think she got flustered when he called her a Cheerleader. She really didn't see that coming

It was a great soundbite for him.

(9,083 posts)She asked him several times what he meant by President Obama being "against the military." Rachel tried to pin the idiot down to an answer, but all he did was spew word salad.

(12,804 posts)He was like a rabid dog spewing right wing nonsense that did not match back to anything the President said. You could tell that he and his ilk had preordained talking points set up before the SOTU speech and those points had little to do with the text of the speech.
He made no sense most of the time and it was hard for Rachel to have a conversation with him. She tried to challenge his asinine points but he would respond with a verbal barrage that often contradicted some of his own points. And assaulting the press and talk show hosts trying to ask them questions with verbal barrages is the hallmark of right wing bullying and contempt for the truth. It is the best display of the vacuity of right wing ideology.
I compare Huelskamp's performance against Rachel on par with Michelle Bachman's performance against Sen. Bernie Sanders on CNN the other day.
On President Obama's performance: I thought he did an outstanding job with this SOTU speech. I'm a progressive critic of Obama and have been disappointed in some of his decisions and apparent lack of willingness to fight for core Democratic and American principles. This SOTU speech combined the best aspects of his stump speeches with the stateliness of the SOTU. He look comfortable, engaged and energized. He sounded a bit like FDR last night and seems to have tossed his willingness to embrace Reagan. That is very good for the Democratic Party and good for America in general.
Huelskamp's interview shows America that the Republicans are Rethugs who have no ideas on on to help the American people and whose nihilistic ideology is a danger for our nation and its future. The Party of Lincoln has completely disowned the famous line in the Gettysburg Address -- government of the people, for the people and by the people.

(26,117 posts)I don't know if many moderates watch Rachel, but any reasonable person would have to see how crazy the uber-RW talking points are after that display.
I also agree with your assessment of the SOTU speech.

WOW, President Barack Obama an imperial king - I doubt mr Huelskamp really know what a modern King or Queen really is all about.. The few country's who still have a King or a Queen as head of State - are far from Imperial in their "state of the nation" address - often written by the government in power, and given to the head of state... In most cases, in modern monarchy - the Queen or King have no real political power - the difference to that rule be the Queen of United Kingdom, and to some degree Denmark, where the Queen do have a few power in the rule of governance - but for the most part, even the Queen of Denmark and UK, seldom use their powers - as it would not be seen as a smart move of their part...

If Only the current President of the US, had been somewhat "imperial" in his actions - like Henry VIII was - most of his worst enemies in the Congress, would have ended up in a prison a long time ago.. Good old Henry was a man who was not afraid of trowing pepole in the Tower - and then execute them if he think they was to annoying for his liking..
The Tea Party member of the Congress - Will be the undoing of US if they are not thrown out in the next election... They are a far more dangerous thing to the US, than every possible enemy the US currently have - or believe they have in the rest of the world.. Mostly because the Tea-Party, works inside the system - and know where to hit hardest to do most damage...

(24,262 posts)his poll numbers in his district probably just went up about 10 points.
I often wonder what it would be like to live in one of the districts where these clowns get elected. A mere trip to the donut shop must be a mind-blowing, head shaking experience there. It's sad that Fox News and other entities and people have made nearly half of this country a place I would never even travel to much less live in. To those DUers who do live in these places, we're with you, and keep up the fight.
