Federal Contractors Employ More Low-Wage Workers Than Walmart and McDonald's Combined, While Paying Top Execs. [Combined] $24 billion

JESSICA DESVARIEUX, CAPITOL HILL CORRESPONDENT: Eight twenty-five is currently the minimum wage for federally contracted employees in D.C. Workers like 54-year-old Melissa Roseboro are making around that, and she says it's simply not enough to live on.

Executive pay can be as high as $760,000 a year. And a new report from Demos shows that nearly $24 billion a year goes to paying salaries of federal contractor executives.

to Halliburton or one o the (4?) big MIC contractors, who in turn sub-contracts the work, the sub does the same, the next sub does the same, etc.. until a small-time sub-contractor is hired to do the job. Each time it is subbed out, the 1st contractor takes the lions share
of the money. Each subsequent sub takes out profits... by the time it reaches the sub that hires people to do the work, most of the profit has already been seized by the "big boys." They hire (usually) unskilled labor and pay them dirt so they can still realize a profit.

"Our" govt. should directly hire or pass a law that the MIC cannot sub-contract the work out.
If these contracts went directly to Union companies who had to perform the job, then average people (Union workers) would be guaranteed a living wage job. The govt. would save trillion$ by contracting these jobs to local Union (not the big unionized MIC) companies on a "cost-plus" basis and have the job done right the first time (or ongoing contract) by trained, skilled employees who earn living wages and benefits.
"Cost plus" means that the costs (labor, materials) are paid for and the Union contractor cannot make more than a 20%.
Currently we are paying huge money for a few politically connected companies to make huge profits bt passing work to the cheapest sub.

is surprised how many people are on starvation wages??? This is just in the "D.C. bubble". How out of touch with America.
That is why I have recommended that D.C. be one of the seats of govt.
They should have regional seats of power. D.C. is a bubble full of power and lobbyists. They must see how we all struggle across America.
Get the money out of politics and into the hands of the people. Progressive taxation, pre-Reagan numbers.
"They claim that unemployment is 7.5% and there is no inflation. Bullshit. Wages are lower, unemployment is closer to 20% and inflation is rampant. Groceries cost twice as much as they did 10 years ago.
Govt. must be overhauled Progressively.
Americans are a Progressive people.

Please Bernie, run for POTUS. Give us time (not at the last minute) to organize and raise money (we are poor) so we can beat the wealthy. This is the time.
