A Bruce Springsteen song thats been selected by President Barack Obamas reelection campaign now has a sing-a-long video to go with it.
In the video We Take Care of Our Own, Springsteen plays in what looks like a closed down warehouse. Black and white images of economic degradation, people of various ethnicity walking through the streets or focusing on tasks at work scroll by, with the lyrics subtitled across the screen.
I been looking for the map that leads me home, he croons. I been stumbling on good hearts turned to stone / The road of good intentions has gone dry as a bone / We take care of our own / We take care of our own / Wherever this flags flown, we take care of our own.
Its not the first time Springsteen has been prominently featured by a Democrat running for the presidency: He famously appeared with Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) in 2004, drawing a massive crowd in Cleveland, Ohio days before the election. Four years later he appeared with then-Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) in the same city, backing his bid for the presidency in 2008.

(30,885 posts)In the vocabulary of "new releases" for books, CDs, DVDs, etc, I've heard the word "drops" before. It's "industry-speak."

(30,885 posts)That's what makes it so enjoyable...instead of Republicans playing the music without asking and then getting sued for it (although I do enjoy the "sued" part).

(8,421 posts)bit about "from the shotgun shacks to the Super Dome." Nice and deserved dig at the heartless "let the market take care of things" GOP.

(17,098 posts)I agree, you can't avoid the opening intro's similarity to "Wild Honey."
One of the Youtube comments said that Bruce is in the final crowd shot. I had to play it a couple of times, but he's back there, right of center.
My Youtube comment:
Wow- put this together with Clint Eastwood in Chrysler's Superbowl statement, and it's a powerful combination. I get goosebumps watching both of them.
Nice to see the real populist movement repudiating the ignorant teabagger brownshirt hysteria. Maybe we'll deliver the smackdown the rich Mussolini repuke fascists deserve after all.

(5,062 posts)Did anyone notice when Michelle Obama was on Jimmy Fallon's show the other night the song they played? Out of all the song out there they chose..........................Eye of the Tiger, by Survivior. This is the band who is suing Newt Gingrich for using the song without permission. I thought that was a great little dig.

(27,461 posts)he's a strong supporter of Obama's, he played a big rally in Madison WI in 2008, and he undoubtedly will support Obama in 2012, but this Raw Story article is misleading. It very strongly suggests that Springsteen has associated his song with the Obama campaign, but when you read the article you find that it's the other way around.

(28,979 posts)Wow. In awe.
And apparently he's promoting his stuff on youtube as you can pre-order his new CD. Anyone know if this means he's off the recording company grid so to speak and marketing himself as a way of thumbing his nose at them? I have wondered if they spent time promoting the great older musicians like him or whether they tend to lose interest since they are past their prime. Not that I think that about Springsteen. No way. He gets better with age. The way a musician should. But I wondered about how he's treated by the recording companies these days.
Anyone know anything about that?
OK. Off to pre-order me some Springsteen on Amazon!
on edit: I didn't read the part where this is going to be associated with Obama necessarily; however I can see how any liberal would like to be associated with the sentiments expressed. I guess I mistook it for a compliment to the occupiers, not the Democrats. Did I miss something?

(28,151 posts)I loved when he did the Super Bowl a few years back too. It seemed like he was leading his fellow Americans in a sing-along during one of the biggest parties of the year. Not a big elaborate show like some, more of a one-of-us-feel.
