The Republican Surrender, New York Times Editorial

The Republican Party slunk away on Wednesday from its failed, ruinous strategy to get its way through the use of havoc. Hours away from an inevitable market crash, it approved a deal that could have been achieved months ago had a few more lawmakers set aside their animus. President Obama signed the bill reopening the government and lifting the debt ceiling early Thursday morning.

The health care reform law will not be defunded or delayed. No taxes will be cut, and the deal calls for no new cuts to federal spending or limits to social welfare programs. The only things Republicans achieved were billions of dollars in damage to the economy, harm to the nation’s reputation and a rock-bottom public approval rating.

“We fought the good fight. We just didn’t win,” Speaker John Boehner said, utterly failing to grasp the destruction his battle caused. It has hurt federal employees and needy people dependent on government programs, and it threatened to alter Washington’s balance permanently by giving a fringe group outsize power over the executive branch and the normal functions of government.

3. We know for sure, without doubt, these Republicans don't care.

They don't care about sick kids, or the reputation of this country or anything but themselves. They exposed themselves for who they really are and they don't care. It is all about their so called "agenda." NOTHING ELSE.. they are bullies, plain and simple

4. Hopefully, this fiasco was an eye-opening experience for most Americans.

Gerrymandered or not, these idiots need to be voted out.

5. Not unless we help

Main stream media is now calling extremist teapartiers and dominionists conservatives and at the same time calling conservatives moderates. This misinformation is part of MSM obligation to serve their rich masters while appearing objective and comforting to the general public as MSM continues to support movement to the right. Is this a plot? Do we need to call them on this?
Do you know who the dominionists are in your state or community? Why are they hidinhg? Are they afraid if them come out we will see them for the real traitors they are?
None of these groups should be hid. When we know who they are and what they aim to do, we will defeat them in public debate and in the minds of the people. MSM should stop their lies and tell the people the truth. Currently these groups have been in bed with corporatists as they work against democracy. We have to fight them all.

6. still far too much 'both sides caused it' from the MSM to be 'eye opening'

Last night my local news was 100% reporting this as a 'both sides' problem. Too many people will still be thinking that.
