A mother's happy day: military spouse deported by Trump returns to family

Wife of a decorated veteran who was forced to break up her family in 2018 is one of the first beneficiaries of Bidenís program

Three years ago Alejandra Juarez fell victim to Donald Trumpís cruelty as the wife of a decorated US Marine Corps veteran and mother of two young US citizen daughters was deported to Mexico under the former presidentís zero-tolerance immigration policies.

On Saturday Juarez will rejoin her family in Florida as one of the first beneficiaries of a humanitarian program set up by Joe Bidenís administration to reunify parents Trump separated from their children.

But while Juarezís Motherís Day weekend reunion with daughters Pamela, 19, Estela, 11, and husband Temo will close a lengthy, painful journey of isolation and depression, she sees it as a door opening for other families torn apart by deportation.

ďIím happy this is behind me and my family, and hoping this will lead to a permanent solution not only for military spouses like myself, but for everyone,Ē she told the Guardian from Mťrida, Mexico, where she has been living since being forced from her home in Davenport, Florida, in 2018.

1. It still boggles my mind that Trump would deport the wife of a decorated vet.

You would think it would be political suicide, in addition to being viciously cruel.

But Trump knew his base. He knew they wouldn't hold it against him. He knew they like cruelty, especially against people of color.

2. I don't know when we started denying spouses status.

But it's ugly and counterproductive. No one is going to be a better American than someone with so much investment in the country as a family.

We used to want more loyal new citizens. When did we get so defensive and resentful that we're harming ourself by denying new citizenship? Breaking up families?

3. Total insanity. Wife of decorated Marine and mother of 2 US citizens. It was a purely evil act.

4. Meanwhile, the numbers of pro-Trump Hispanic Republicans are growing...

Hard to believe...

5. Subject to the same propaganda, and pressure, as 'others.'
