Facebook reportedly exempted Trump's family and allies from its misinformation rules to avoid accusations of anti-conservative bias

Facebook held off applying its misinformation rules to key allies of President Donald Trump because it feared accusations of anti-conservative bias, The Washington Post reported on Sunday.

Current and former Facebook employees told The Post that the company had gone easy on certain accounts, including those of Donald Trump Jr. and America First Action, the biggest pro-Trump super PAC.

Toward the end of 2019, the company removed a misinformation strike against Trump Jr.'s Instagram account, two former employees told The Post.

The paper did not specify which post was at issue but said that if the strike had been upheld, Facebook could have imposed sanctions on the account, such as reducing its traffic and lowering it in search results.

One former employee told The Post that this was one of many strike removals for Trump's family members over the past year.

Facebook is not the same as Fux Noise. It is now essentially a communications common carrier, not a propaganda creator. It has wormed its way into not only multiple roles in individuals' lives, but as a space for doing business. Want to contact certain businesses? Better be on Facebook, and be able to PM them. Want to see a restaurant's menu, or find out their hours? Many don't even have a website, but they sure are on FB. Want to get the attention of a business behaving badly to you? Huh - FB is the fastest route to get the message across on their page.

Many of us who might otherwise not give a damn can't even get off FB for practical reasons. We manage pages for one or more organizations or businesses. Not only that, but FB *creates* pages for organizations or businesses we work for, hoping that the biz or org will claim the page and start using FB. Or, if it isn't claimed and locked down, it can become a targeted free space for enemies of that org or biz to scrag it, with no opportunity for that biz or org to even know about it or act on it.

FB is a fabulous source of information. Where did livestreams go in my old home town of Minneapolis when the 3rd Precinct started going up in smoke? And thereafter? And many other cities? All on FB, FB, FB. If you want to be in the know, or to get info quickly to others, FB is the place.

Also, FB is the #1 best tool to doxx nazis. They can't help themselves. It's our handiest way to research who that asshat was who burned a political sign, or who rounded up a group of asshats to run over protestors.

So cut it out. Instead, stay on FB and fu** with Zuck.

* Cost them time and money. Report all hate speech, false news, etc. Report every ad as spam. They do have to handle all that, and that causes them overhead. Sometimes, it even works.

* Don't use any of their services that get them paid. For example, if you want to donate to a nonprofit that you see running a campaign on FB, find out a way to directly donate to the nonprofit rather than clicking the donate button.

* Look for ways to embarrass FB in the media. If there's a way to get a story out on how FB is allowing violent right-wing content, you do it!

* Doxx, doxx, doxx the enemy. They are idiotically reckless on social media. Use that mercilessly. Identify the bullies and the criminals. Find out where they work. Lost them their job. Make them "famous."

* Use FB (judiciously!) to organize and get information, and be social with people you like, but do not use any of the other services like Marketplace or Games. Again, deny FB the opportunities to get $$.
