Demoralization Is A Weapon; Don't Give Into It, Keep Up The Fight

'Demoralization Is A Weapon,' Daily Kos, Sept. 20, 2020.

- Many people are working to right the ills, and make the world a better place.

Demoralization is a weapon. People who are demoralized to the point of feeling helpless may not bother to vote. They will not find the wherewithal to fight. They may give up without a fight.

The Rs, and especially the tRump campaign, are trying to demoralize us. We need to recognize this technique, so that we don’t give and to fight this, so that we are strong enough to continue.

And it should go without saying, but still needs to be said, we need to stop demoralizing ourselves.

What can you do if you are feeling demoralized, about the the condition of our country and the rest of the world?

This article from Healthline contains suggestions on how to fight depression — and demoralization has a lot in common with depression. It starts with the advice to meet yourself where you are. There is no shame in feeling down, especially when so many bad things happen. The article even encourages us to wallow if we need to, but to do it constructively.

Here are some general suggestions on what you can do to feel better and stronger.

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. Deep breathing, yoga. Five deep slow breaths, in and out, helps me a lot. I don’t personally have the patience for yoga but many swear by it.

Eat and drink right (especially, drink more water, dehydration can also ruin your mood). Although potato chips and alcohol may beckon when you’re down, you’ll do better if you stay away from the bad stuff. Note that good habits may take a few days to pay off.

Make sure you have enough vitamins (D, especially, boosts the immune system and may play a role in Seasonal Affective Disorder, also known as SAD) in your system.

Music. If you like music at all, it’s good to have a few faves on your phone or somewhere you can get to it easily. I listen often to Pharrell Williams “Happy” — as corny a solution as there is, but a little bit of bouncing around to this and I do feel better...
