If you text USPS to 50409 they will send letters to your senators and representative in support of the postal service.
It takes under one minute.
Help save our democracy.
Works like a charm.
Please do this. Dont let your vote be suppressed.

(37,457 posts)On your phone, open up your texting application (or SMS app).
On the "To" line (or whatever it's called), type 50409. Make sure that is saved
Now, type USPS in the message space. Tap SMS (or whatever the command to send a text is called) to send the text.
That sends a text to the " Resistbot " service that automatically generates an old-fashioned paper letter
to your Senators and your Representative.

(297,180 posts)friends but they're already on my contact list. I've never sent a text to anyone out of the blue.
I'll try it later and come back if I have any questions.

(37,457 posts)The texting computer program, I think, is on most people's phones but maybe not the older phones.

(11 posts)And the Trump campaign is currently sending absentee ballots to registered Republicans https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/16/politics/postal-service-trump-absentee-ballot-request-mail-usps/index.html
Mr.Bill
(24,283 posts)They are not sending ballots, they are sending applications for mail-in ballots. (which is still hypocritical)
h2ebits
(644 posts)except, of course, in the states that mail out ballots to all registered voters. This should help the USPS too since the letters have to be stamped and processed.

(25,964 posts)It's a good one. Writing your own letter is also a very good idea.
Laelth
(32,017 posts)It also requires email verification. The verification, alone, may take up to 15 minutes.
I appreciate the worthy cause involved, here, but I dont like the false advertisement ... at all. I am tempted not to complete this laborious project just because of the way that it was advertised.

(25,964 posts)keep recommending the service. From the FAQ:
Text ALERTS to manage the types of alerts you receive, or STOP to cancel the service completely.
I get where you're coming from. I hesitated HARD on giving them my email address, but I don't expect my reps to spam me or refuse to honor an unsub request. If they do, I know how to block them.
I have balked every time on these in the past for the same reason but, like you, this time I did it anyway.
✨ !Solidarity for the USPS! ✨
Laelth
(32,017 posts)It was worth it to defend the USPS.
But it took way more than a minute, and thats my principal gripe.

(7,608 posts)you don't have to repeat the process on subsequent uses, making it simpler and quicker. The initial "signup" allows Resistbot to identify your Congressman and Senators. One advantage of Resistbot is you can write a single message and automatically have it sent to all three. Resistbot also has a facility to turn a text message into a letter to the editor and submit it to your local paper(s).
