So, what are YOU going to get out of the lockdown?

Putting this in Eds so it doesn't get gobbled up in GD

The quarantine/lockdown/shelter in place/shut in/STAY AT HOME

Early on I read this should really be a health check for everyone. If you got it, the healthier you are the more likely you are to get through it (most people will) but you should use this opportunity to take inventory of things you do.

I also read that to pass the time, take up or re-try 3 things
So I picked a few:
Stay off the booze - no drinky (except last Friday) since the first weekend we were at home
Quit smoking - kinda started Thursday (patch)with a few puffs out of habit here and there and then I found a pack of smokes on the shelf with my gum stash. Yesterday I smoked it up. I put the patch on today at 9am and it's working I have no real want for a smoke.
Pick up the guitar - two days in. Going pretty good thanks to advice from DU'ers on a couple of treads.
Spanish - haven't started that yet.
Work out - hobbled by a gout attack but I've been putting in my sit-ups and pushups (not ever day). I've lost 5 pounds since Wednesday. Feeling great.

So. Got any plans?

1. The desk in my home office is finally getting cleared!

Getting caught up with paperwork. Receipts, taxes, work expenses, etc.

6. Funny I let my family know I was in "beach mode"

The stuff I'm doing (other than NOT doing two things) are 20-30 minutes each a day. I am still teleworking during the week.

Other than that, I don't care. Watch what you want. Do what you want. Game night Friday night. Just chill. I think that's what a lot of people should do. Realize as horrible as this is, you will never be paid to stay home (and work) again. At least not like this.

3. I'm working harder than I ever worked in my life. Switched to video sessions.

Next to impossible. Struggling with the technology and with making sessions meaningful.

Feeling awful that they are not up to my standards, and worrying about my clients. I work all the time. I usually love my job, but I detest this.

7. That's my wife

Using an old PC because her work can't connect with our Mac.
She has the exact same amount of workload as if she were going in. Usually there's some % of your day that not being there alleviates. Whatever is alleviated is taken up by network connection problems. We have to take the dog for a walk when she has certain phone calls.

4. I'm doing all the yard work I've wanted

to do but put off. Rebuilt firewood racks and restacked all the firewood. Ran the huge pieces to a friendís house as they have a huge outside fire pit. Planting plants and reworking my drop irrigation lines. Reorganized my workshop. I replaced a 4 shelf storage rack with a 5 shelf. Reorganized the kitchen cabinets. Staying busy until the pool warms up a bit then... floating the days away with an adult beverage.

9. I'm picking two things a day to get done other than my list

I have a compost pile that needs turning over but with my ankle swollen that wasn't possible.

Sounds like you've been crunching it.

5. Funny thing..we like wine.

Hubster and I almost always have a glass of wine with dinner on Friday nights, sort of a toasting in the weekend. We have quite a bit of wine in the house, even though we are very light drinkers. We have not taken a drink since this started. The first Friday at home, I asked him what wine we should have with dinner. He said he really didnít want wine, but would have a glass if I wanted some. Then I realized I really didnít want it, either.

We are taking long walks with the dog in the afternoon. Another funny thing, our dog is very shy and anxious and usually doesnít want to go on very long walks. Now he canít wait to drag us for a mile or two.

Hubster is working from home, and I am retired, so our daily patterns arenít much different except that he isnít taking the bus downtown so is in a better mood. We also get to have lunch together every day.

Iím finishing up old neglected knitting projects, taking virtual dance classes, and finally learning bass and catching up on reading.

11. I taught my wife how to do the taxes in case I go.

After 35 years, it's her turn anyway.
