The KURDS Did Help The ALLIES In World War II

DailyKos, "The Kurds did help the Allies in WWII." BY MTmofo, Oct. 9, 2019.

Zeddy @Zeddary Oh, and would you f***ing look at that. The Kurds DID help us win World War 2. First as part of the counter-offensive to the Nazi-backed Iraqi coup of 1941. Later, some served in Albania, Italy and Greece.

- New recruits in the Iraq Levies being drilled during the Second World War.

(Wiki, IRAQ LEVIES) In 1942, the Iraq Levies consisted of a Headquarters, a Depot, Specialist Assyrian companies, 40 service companies and the 1st Parachute Company, which consisted of 75% Assyrian and 25% Kurd. The new Iraq Levies Disciplinary Code was based largely on the Indian Army Act.

By 1943 the Iraq Levies strength stood at 166 British officers controlling 44 companies; 22 Assyrian, five Mixed Assyrian/Yizidi, ten Kurdish, four Marsh Arabs, and three Baluchi. Eleven Assyrian companies served in Palestine and another four served in Cyprus. The Parachute Company was attached to the Royal Marine Commando and were active in Albania, Italy and Greece. In 1943/1944 the Iraq Levies were renamed the Royal Air Force Levies...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_Levies

Zeddy @Zeddary 3h Replying to @Zeddary The Iraq Levies were an Allied WW2 force largely composed of Assyrian, Kurdish, Armenian, Turkman and Yazidi soldiers. All ethnic groups, I might add, represented in the Syrian Democratic Forces, the anti-ISIS coalition that Trump just betrayed.

Zeddy @Zeddary There's a tremendous erased history of colonial soldiers serving in WW2. Indian, Arab, African soldiers in large numbers all contributed to the liberation of Axis territory including Europe in frontline combat.

But forgotten because they served under French & British flags. 242 6:27 PM - Oct 9, 2019

(Wiki). The Women's Protection Units or Women's Defense Units (Kurdish: Yekneyn Parastina Jin‎, YPJ, pronounced Yuh-Pah-Juh) is an all-female militia actively fighting in Northern Syria. The YPJ is one of the main two armed forces in Rojava, the other being the People's Protection Units (Yekneyn Parastina Gel, YPG) militia, which includes both men and women. While the YPJ, and the YPG in general, is mainly associated with Kurds, the organization also includes other ethnoreligious groups of Northern Syria...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%27s_Protection_Units

4. I figured this would show up.

Don't surprise me none. AS stated above the French and British had many colonials enlisted in the fight against that era's fascism.

8. Kurds helped the Allies.

That's different from "the Kurds helped the Allies."

The entire issue is ill-formed: There being no formal structure, with a large portion of Kurds in neutral Turkey and another part in Iraq (with its own problems, most of which were at best WWII-adjacent), and a third part in Iran which was essentially useless at the time, it's not like "the Kurds" could have done much to help.
