A cavalcade of Obama-era national security leaders have committed to testify on behalf of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe should he face trial over allegations that he misled officials about leaks to the media.

The lineup, detailed in a memo that McCabe’s legal team submitted to the Justice Department last month, includes past heads of the DOJ, CIA and the country’s entire intelligence apparatus. McCabe’s ex-boss, however — former FBI Director James Comey — has said he could be a witness against him, based on testimony Comey gave to an internal watchdog that appeared to contradict McCabe’s version of events.

McCabe was fired in 2018 after the Justice Department's inspector general concluded that the FBI’s No. 2 had exhibited a “lack of candor” during its probe into disclosures to the media about the bureau’s investigation into the Clinton Foundation. McCabe has argued that he did not intend to mislead investigators and argued in a lawsuit filed in August that his ouster was politically motivated retaliation — directed by President Donald Trump — meant to punish him for his role in the probe of the Trump campaign’s links to Russia.

If McCabe ultimately does face charges, he’ll have some big names lined up as character witnesses. The high-ranking ex-officials who have committed to defending him include former Attorney General Eric Holder, former CIA Director John Brennan, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former national security adviser Susan Rice.

Mary McCord, a career DOJ attorney who oversaw the government’s Russia probe as acting head of the DOJ’s National Security Division, and David Cohen, the No. 2 at the CIA from 2015 to 2017, are also lined up to speak on McCabe’s behalf. ...........................

McCabe's lawyers said the testimony of these witnesses won't be limited "solely to character evidence"—they'll also serve "as fact witnesses, to testify about the many critical and highly sensitive national security and law enforcement they worked on with Mr. McCabe."

1. I wish there was a way to contribute $$ to his legal defense.

This has to be costing him some HUGE chunks of change.

2. There was a huge GoFundMe

set up for McCabe when he was fired. I recall it totaled over 250K. I know that doesn’t go a long way when it comes to big time legal fees...but it’s something. His wife is a pediatrician so they’re probably doing okay.

3. Honest to God, I just don't know...........

where to "place" this guy Comey! One day he's sending Secretary Clinton down the stream, the next day he's saying that IQ45 doesn't deserve that high of a score!

So now this:

"McCabe’s ex-boss, however — former FBI Director James Comey — has said he could be a witness against him, based on testimony Comey gave to an internal watchdog that appeared to contradict McCabe’s version of events."

What's going on with him? Is it to get the highest payment each week from whoever is willing to step up?

I'm so confused.......

5. It's bizarro world in America.

The FBI, including McCabe, interfered in the 2016 election to Hillary's detriment. Trump fired several of its leaders for not being boot-licks. I'm just making more popcorn and watching from the sidelines.

8. Seriously!

Think about it - you've spent your entire career SERVING our country - and IQ45 comes in and wipes out your entire retirement plan because he's the numb-nuts that he is - and he's allowed to get away with it?

I hope this whole scam goes down in flames - he gets his retirement, and IQ45 gets his 10 to 20 (OK, I know some are hoping for more, but think about it - he's in such "good shape" that tomorrow is always questionable! - sorry - didn't mean to offer false hope!).

9. The republicans will love this.

The same people they claim McCabe was “conspiring” with will come to his defense as character witnesses, but none of them will be in a position to actually refute the charge against him. It may help McCabe if he faces charges, but it’s political advantage for the republicans.
