If the filibuster remains...

The simply asymmetry of the Senate filibuster: it takes 60 votes to build something, but only 50 to tear it down. The filibuster no longer binds the core conservative agenda in any way; it blocks and deforms everything the left needs to do. My latest:

If the Filibuster Remains, the Democratic Agenda is Doomed

2. I can't remember the last time the gop "played fair' and resisted a temptation to

NOT do something that was destructive....do you? Point is, they don't return the favor. They change the rules when they want something, then back off, change the rules (it seems) then back off....slowly getting everything they want while making "us' feel guilty if we "play UN fair' even a little. Just a thought.

3. I think it's just a mind game for them. "Let's see what we can do next."

And watch the dems spout and flounder.

Agree. All the "play fair" types have left the gop.

6. No way. Reid did the right thing

In fact, Dems should have gotten rid of the blue slip rule too.

If they had done THAT, GOP would have done exactly what they are doing now. Except weíd have gotten a lot more liberal judges confirmed.

8. Absolutely not. McConnell was going to take advantage either way

Too many Dems think that we can compromise with McConnell and the GOP.

And we repeatedly get burned.

NOTHING that Reid or Obama did was going to change the GOP goals of obstruction and judge-ramming.

Our only hope was to take advantage of when we had power to push through sweeping change. Thatís what FDR did. Thatís what LBJ did. Dems were right to push through judges and they made a grave error by not pushing away the blue slip rule. In actuality McConnell blew it up immediate when the GOP got power.

If Reid had gone even farther and ended blue slip weíd be in the SAME place now but with more liberal judges on the bench. Itís too bad we didnít do that. Itís time to take strong action.
