Scottish government wins Donald Trump wind power legal costs

Not beyond the Framers’ contemplation at all, @Fahrenthold: A loan *from* a foreign government is a standard form of financial benefit & thus an Emolument — especially if it’s on favorable terms, or if the borrower is a deadbeat who couldn’t get that loan domestically

Here's a reverse-emoluments case that the Founding Fathers didn't plan for...what happens when @realDonaldTrump owes a large debt *to* a foreign government? In Scotland, it's happening.

In Scotland, @realDonaldTrump fought the Scottish govt over a windfarm that would alter the view from his golf course. He lost. Now, a court says he's also got to pay his opponents' legal fees.

Scottish government wins Donald Trump wind power legal costs

28 February 2019

Donald Trump's Aberdeenshire golf resort must pay the Scottish government's legal costs following a court battle over a major North Sea wind power development.

Mr Trump battled unsuccessfully in the courts to halt the project before he became US president. ... A total of 11 turbines make up the development off Aberdeen.

Judges have now ruled Trump International Golf Club Scotland Ltd should pay the legal bills incurred. ... Mr Trump had argued the development would spoil the view from his golf course at Menie.

The ruling at the Court of Session stemmed from the case going to the UK Supreme Court in December 2015. ... The sum involved has not been disclosed.

Developed by Swedish energy group Vattenfall, the wind farm generated its first power in July last year.

Expect several angry, incoherent tweets about haggis.

Just eight hours ago 'rump retweeted a Trump Organization tweet about the course saying

"Very proud of perhaps the greatest golf course anywhere in the world. Also, furthers U.K. relationship!"

I wonder if there is any connection

I do hope he refuses to pay and they, in a lightning strike, claim the club and close it off.

The Scots can do this even if Trump appeals. IIRC, it's a weird law that he can't benefit from the club's proceeds while at the same time he refuses to pay based on a high court decision. It would be great to see his chump name yanked off the club!

Ask Jimmy Carter who placed his family farm in a blind trust for 4 years and learned nothing until he returned to Plains. This is how it is done.
