Vox: Tucker Carlson has sparked the most interesting debate in conservative politics

I thought it was interesting https://www.vox.com/2019/1/10/18171912/tucker-carlson-fox-news-populism-conservatism-trump-gop

Para 2:
America’s “ruling class,” Carlson says, are the “mercenaries” behind the failures of the middle class — including sinking marriage rates — and “the ugliest parts of our financial system.” He went on: “Any economic system that weakens and destroys families is not worth having. A system like that is the enemy of a healthy society.”

later:
Carlson told me he wanted to be clear: He is not a populist. But he believes some version of populism is necessary to prevent a full-scale political revolt or the onset of socialism. Using Theodore Roosevelt as an example of a president who recognized that labor needs economic power, he told me, “Unless you want something really extreme to happen, you need to take this seriously and figure out how to protect average people from these remarkably powerful forces that have been unleashed.”

So he's just hoping it can all be saved from itself, again.

13. And he skipped the last Roosevelt who advocated successfully for the people.

Guess he forgot about FDR signing the Wagner Act into law.

3. if only we had

collections of workers that banded together to give them increased bargaining power...a....what's the word I want to use...union! of people that gave them equal bargaining power with businesses and corporations.

The government would protect these unions as much as the companies themselves.

Crazy idea I know.

6. He wants that. For white men.

This is why left-wing populism makes a lot of us nervous, particularly when politicians explicitly praise the economics of the 1950s. Because Carlson could peel off a lot of the Broletariat with them.

7. He is a fraud. He would never support any solutions to these problems.

There are no right wing solutions so Tucker can say “I told you so” as things worsen while he stands firmly against any realistic solutions.

15. Yep, the only RW solution to anything is tax cuts and trickle down...

neither of which work except for the rich.

8. This is pretty common in RW world these days

They still stick with the standard projection stuff - liberals are trying to control you!

Playing victim

Recently I’ve heard a lot of this “Populism from the Ivory Tower” stuff. Also there’s a standard bit about “identity politics” which was their creation back in the Lee Atwater days.

If you were them - especially “Shocked and Confused Spice” Tucker - what would you talk about? They’ve got to fill airtime.

9. Ok, cool

So this is just the right spitballing to itself and seeing what sticks so that it can pry apart and benefit the smallest group possible and still get the reduction in 'rebellious noise' that their masters are asking for.

Maybe we should get louder

17. Fuck you, Rich Boy!

You need to be eating a lot more, Tucker, your face isn't anywhere nearly round enough to suit me. Try stuffing yourself with some of your step-momma's TV dinners---make her even more wealthy......
