OK Google, why was your web traffic hijacked and routed through China, Russia today?
BGP attack committed 'grand theft internet'

By Shaun Nichols in San Francisco 13th November 2018 01:05 GMT

People's connections in the US to Google including its cloud, YouTube, and other websites were suddenly rerouted through Russia and into China in a textbook Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) hijacking attack.

That means folks in Texas, California, Ohio, and so on, firing up their browsers and software and connecting to Google and its services were instead talking to systems in Russia and China, and not servers belonging to the Silicon Valley giant.

Any information exchanged during the hour-and-a-half-long hijacking that wasn't securely encrypted may have leaked into the wrong hands. Netizens outside of America may also have been affected.

The Chocolate Factory confirmed that for a period on Monday afternoon, from 1312 to 1435 Pacific Time, connections to Google Cloud, its APIs, and websites were being diverted through IP addresses belonging to overseas ISPs. Sites and apps built on Google Cloud, such as Spotify, Nest, and Snapchat, were also brought down by the interception.

Specifically, network connectivity to Google was instead routed through TransTelekom in Russia (mskn17ra-lo1.transtelecom.net), and into a China Telecom gateway (ChinaTelecom-gw.transtelecom.net) that black-holed the packets. Both nodes have since stopped resolving to IP addresses.

This is CyberWarfare & this is why Putin is a Serious Global Threat

I do not know if this interruption earlier today has anything to do with the sudden deletions of certain RW online media communications.
However after reading this, it makes one wonder about a few other occurances we've had to deal with recently.
Like our midterm elections.

There's a lot her to read thru.

Night -~

1. Yaknow, I've been seeing a lot of ads in Russian lately...

I thought it was because of an Eastern European VPN, but who knows...

2. This has just blown me away. Yes we have been aware of Putin & Media Manipulation, but to the

degree given in these articles & postings, is quite looming.

I haven't read all of the linked article since it gets into tech areas/terminology that I am unfamiliar with.

Twitter replies give a good perspective as to the enormous impact of cyberwarfare when its being wielded by the likes of Vladimer Putin.

Not so oddly that this, today, came just following Trump & Putin's Paris visit.
Phase 2 plans needed adjusting with the Dem House coming into control in less than 2 months.

One event is connected to the other & nothing happens by coincidence, it appears.

Imagine that Mueller's team has been seeing Vlad's game all play out as they try to collect proof & build their case.
They are tracking a true psycho, in cyber, around the world.
And Trump is in our White House.
And google & FB cannot or will not stop the bleed.

Fk.

3. OK, if they can do it with the internet, I'll figure they can do it with our utilities and other

computer-dependent operations.

As I read it.
But I'm no expert on tech so I have to inch along with graspng this info also.

I know there are some bright minds here on DU that can maybe explain it better than I.

I just see this as concerning, but will look for more discussion on it

11. Short answer: the Internet was bugged.

Anyone using Google or subsidies during the indicated time period were monitored by Russian and/or Chinese sources. You thought you were talking to Silicon Valley, you were really talking to Beijing.
