In other news, I just returned from voting & I didn't even cry till I got outside & then I had to put my head against a tree hide my face.

A girl actually asked her mother "Why is that man crying Mommy." Her mother just gave me an "Aw" look and answered that sometimes Democracy is

And what differed from the experience of voting for Obama was the deep sense of urgency that you could see one every face. And we

I've been crying at least once a day about this very thing for the past few days. At this rate, I think I will be a blubbering mess on election night (in a good way).

I don't have a young daughter I can take with me to the voting booth (I did that with her long ago), but I do have a beautiful grown-up daughter who will be going with me here in California to cast her vote alongside me for the first woman to serve as our president, and my mother will cast her vote with us in another state (bless her heart, in Arkansas).

I should probably mention that my husband will also be voting with us here in California, and my brother and his family in Texas also stand with us.

We are all fully aware of the importance of this vote aside from its importance as a once in a lifetime historical landmark. It is truly a sobering responsibility we bear. We WILL do this. Together.

I love Obama, and am gonna miss him soooooo much!

But, wow... that "deep sense of urgency" Robert Sandy described is weighing heavily on my heart this time. It's a double whammy on me emotionally in this election.

Wow, you hit a strong button there. For me it comes from the hope that all of us as a country, if we all pulled together in the same direction, could make this all so much better for everyone.

Thank you so much for posting.

on Nov 8. Calvin Coolidge was president during the year she was born (1927) and women had only been allowed to vote since the 19th amendment passed in 1920. Its amazing to think there will be women voting for a woman for president who were born before women's suffrage.
