The Washington Post: Inside the Clinton Donor Network

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/clinton-money/?wpmm=1&wpisrc=nl_daily202

A Washington Post investigation reveals how Bill and Hillary Clinton have methodically cultivated donors over 40 years, from Little Rock to Washington and then across the globe. Their fundraising methods have created a new blueprint for politicians and their donors. Over four decades of public life, Bill and Hillary Clinton have built an unrivaled global network of donors while pioneering fundraising techniques that have transformed modern politics and paved the way for them to potentially become the first husband and wife to win the White House.

The grand total raised for all of their political campaigns and their family’s charitable foundation reaches at least $3 billion, according to a Washington Post investigation. Their fundraising haul, which began with $178,000 that Bill Clinton raised for his long-shot 1974 congressional bid, is on track to expand substantially with Hillary Clinton’s 2016 White House run, which has already drawn $110 million in support.

The Post identified donations from roughly 336,000 individuals, corporations, unions and foreign governments in support of their political or philanthropic endeavors — a list that includes top patrons such as Steven Spielberg and George Soros, as well as lesser-known backers who have given smaller amounts dozens of times. Not included in the count are an untold number of small donors whose names are not identified in campaign finance reports but together have given millions to the Clintons over the years. The majority of the money — $2 billion — has gone to the Clinton Foundation, one of the world’s fastest-growing charities, which supports health, education and economic development initiatives around the globe. A handful of elite givers have contributed more than $25 million to the foundation, including Canadian mining magnate Frank Giustra, who is among the wealthy foreign donors who have given tens of millions.

A FUNDRAISING POWERHOUSE

Roughly two-thirds of the money given by Clinton donors has gone to support their charitable foundation.

Separately, donors have given $1 billion to support the Clintons’ political races and legal defense fund, making capped contributions to their campaigns and writing six-figure checks to the Democratic National Committee and allied super PACs. The Post investigation found that many top Clinton patrons supported them in multiple ways, helping finance their political causes, their legal needs, their philanthropy and their personal bank accounts. In some cases, companies connected to their donors hired the Clintons as paid speakers, helping them collect more than $150 million on the lecture circuit in the past 15 years. The couple’s biggest individual political benefactors are Univision chairman Haim Saban and his wife, Cheryl, who have made 39 contributions totaling $2.4 million to support the Clintons’ races since 1992. The Sabans have also donated at least $10 million to the foundation...

We don't need no stinking rich people to donate to a Foundation that helps the poorest of the poor. Never mind that merry-go-round those little kids play on in that poor African village pumps healthy clean water while they play.

As is Philanthropy, if you like that term better. As are their political donations. So, the mining "magnate" puts some of his blood money - extorted from workers, from our precious and irreplaceable commons - to some "good cause." Gee, I'd bet some of those getting rich on the death and destruction in Nigeria from oil are big donors to something too!

And don't imagine they don't want something for it - whether a day less in hell or a deregulation - they expect a return.

That some "big donors" may have acquired their blood money in somewhat less vile and poisonous ways - say a director - does not refute the principle.

All wealth is theft.

Oh, no. It's everywhere. They are all out to get her. Yes, you heard me right. They are out to get her because she is a woman. By linking this you will make it impossible for Hillary to win the GE because you've put her down. How dare you! For the love of everything holy in politics.

Now there is only way you can rectify your mistake. You must bow down before Hillary and offer to kiss her feet. She is the chosen one, it is HER turn. She is our savior like Jesus.

And if you haven't gotten any of that yet, I'll add this for clarification

being practiced in the worship of Dame Clinton. Hard to believe the reasons behind it are as simple as they are, but after you've seen the evidence for a time you have but to conclude that it's not some sort of mirage. It truly IS that simple and void of sophistication.
What we need is REAL Hope 'n Change - the sort we were promised by the last winner, but never got delivered. What we don't need is a "third term" of his "leadership" style. We don't need a continuation of a totally blind attorney general's office. I mean - if I rob the bank, I'm going to jail. If the BANKS rob the bank, their CEOs get bonuses. And you can DAMN SURE bet that wanton invisibility would continue to be practiced under Obama's third term. Hell, the banks are already buying their cloak of invincibility - Right in front of our eyes!

I think given the situation that Obama faced he has accomplished quite a bit. Some of his policies I have disagreed with. Perhaps the worst is the upcoming TPP vote. If that were to fail, I would be relieved.

You are right about making an argument against a Obama 3rd term. That is a difficult thing to do and why since the passing of the of the 22nd Amendment almost 65 years ago only one time has a party managed to win the White House three terms in a row (Reagan and GHW Bush). Granted we came close in 2000. I think it will be much harder than the Clinton supporters make it out to be if she is the nominee.

Forget Hillary's gender - she's got an aura about her (undeserved) that the GOP has tediously put together. And they're going to stand behind that fantasy to the bitter end. What's telling to a degree is how they don't even MENTION Bernie Sanders when talking about the general elections. I really think that it's "outta sight - outta mind" because they KNOW he'd be the harder contender to beat

I agree that Obama has had some positive accomplishments - the ACA being the foremost. But even that was compromised and compromised BY Obama and the Dems. We should have pushed the damned health Ins companies into the trash pile - instead we accommodated them.
The ongoing drone debacle is a real blight on this country's façade of caring for humanity - just one of MANY continuations of Bush's old games. And his AGs have been a JOKE. Holder's name fit him perfectly - holding off on prosecuting ANYONE that really deserved to be. "Cut it out" ain't gonna cut it. And I feel certain that's gonna be the next Wall St. lackey if she manages to win the White House.

35. Bill Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation is on Charity Navigator's Watchlist
Sat Nov 28, 2015, 12:52 PM
Nov 2015

Here's why:

On February 19, 2015, the Wall Street Journal reported that as secretary of state, Hillary Clinton "was one of the most aggressive global cheerleaders for American companies, pushing governments to sign deals and change policies to the advantage of corporate giants such as General Electric Co., Exxon MobilCorp., Microsoft Corp. and Boeing Co." The article goes on to state that "at the same time, those companies were among the many that gave to the Clinton family's global foundation set up by her husband, former President Bill Clinton." The article says that "at least 60 companies that lobbied the State Department during her tenure donated a total of more than $26 million to the Clinton Foundation, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of public and foundation disclosures."
The article also states that "corporate donations to politically connected charities aren't illegal so long as they aren't in exchange for favors. There is no evidence of that with the Clinton Foundation. [...] All of the companies mentioned in this article said their charitable donations had nothing to do with their lobbying agendas with Mrs. Clinton's State Department."
