(CNN)George Zimmerman -- the man acquitted by a Florida jury over the death of Trayvon Martin -- was arrested Friday in Florida on suspicion of aggravated assault and domestic violence with a weapon, local authorities said.
The 31-year-old Florida man was arrested by police in Lake Mary around 10 p.m. and booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility, according to that facility's website. That facility, like its website, is run by the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.
Zimmerman became a national figure in 2012, after he spotted Martin -- a 17-year-old African-American -- in his Sanford, Florida, neighborhood. The two ended up having a confrontation that climaxed with Zimmerman fatally shooting the teenager, who was unarmed.
<...>
More recently, in September 2014, Lake Mary police said that a man claimed that Zimmerman threatened him during a road rage incident. "I will ... kill you," Zimmerman allegedly said, according to police. "Do you know who I am?" He was not arrested and has not been charged.

(10,252 posts)I think we can safely say a) Zimmerman has anger issues and b) he is addicted to guns.
It's really too bad. Now I don't want you DU folks demonizing him, becuz I know you will. How much selfishness, suffering, and ignorance is inside such a person to drive this type of behavior? Where did we, as a society fail, to teach him as a child how to deal with anger and frustration? Why as a child was he never taught to simply walk out of the room and go else where, when he feels like he is about to explode with rage? And why do we tolerate soooo many guns in the hands of people like this?
We really have to do something about our gun problem. Thank goodness he didn't kill anyone -- this time. But what about next time?

(2,529 posts)He's violent by nature and it's a pattern that's not going to end. Like most sociopaths, he's narcissistic and thinks he's smarter than everyone else. Like most sociopathic killers, he preys on those who are weaker than him. He likes the limelight. Just like Ted Bundy did. But, sooner or later, he'll stumble. He'll wind up in a prison yard where he won't be able to hide behind one of his precious guns.

(1 post)My Mother is defiant that this mental case was innocent in killing Trayvon. We have heated arguments, sometimes over the issue. I personally believe he got away with murder and hope he ends up so ridden with guilt that he does away with himself. Or he just messes with the wrong person. My Mom may have bought into his BS, but I see his true colors coming through loud and clear!!

Since he got away with murder, this is his third arrest for domestic violence involving a firearm. He also has picked up three traffic citations.

Two, I wonder what the jury feels when they read these articles - over and over about Zim. Right or wrong, I would have a problem feeling like I had something to do with the next violence he commits.

From its long, lone captivity in sin,
Restore all broken hearts,
Slay grief, and let sweet consolation in,
Turn thou thyself.
It thou wouldst cure the world
Of its long sickness, end its grief and pain,
Bring in all-healing Joy,

Bring it to Love and Peace,
And Light and brightness of immortal Life,
Wake thou thyself.

In an in-depth interview in GQ, George Zimmerman's brother discloses that his family wanted to "rebrand" the former Neighborhood Watch volunteer after his murder acquittal and make him the star of a reality TV show.
"I learned a lot from watching 'Keeping up with the Kardashians,'" Robert Zimmerman Jr. told GQ in a story in its October editions.
George Zimmerman, 30, would not take part in the interview unless he was offered a week's stay in a luxury hotel, something the magazine would not do, it reported.
