Mayor Bloomberg launches campaign against gun laws

Source: AP

WASHINGTON — New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg launched a national campaign against gun laws that he said "justify civilian gun play."

Bloomberg was joined by the leaders from the NAACP, National Urban League and other groups Wednesday at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. as he announced "Second Chance on Shoot First."

The campaign aims to repeal or reform the laws that eliminated a person's duty to retreat when threatened with serious bodily harm or death. These laws have passed in 25 states.

Bloomberg said these laws undermined integrity of the justice system, threaten public safety and make it more difficult to prosecute shooters.

... this is FAR from a new position from him.

We need sensible gun regulation in the U.S. The 2nd Amendment is not the most important... it's at the bottom of my list of favorite Constitutional rights. He wants Stand Your Ground laws repealed.

Can you tell me with a straight face that's a bad thing?

No, he wants the vile peasants to not be able to carry guns because that right should be reserved for the rich.

I want SYG laws repealed, but I still despise Bloomberg.

Too bad he's not a long-time freedom advocate as was shown during the OWS and the spying on American Muslims...not only in NYC but across the river in NJ.

So, yes coming from this man, it's a bad thing!!!

Bloomberg is one of the few Repubs not adhering to the party's NRA suck-off policy, therefore he must be vilified by the gun militancy movement. No big surprise that you're leading the charge here, Mr. "Progressive"......

would rather suck up on the emotional. All this distraction over one death while there are plenty of others dieing for lack of food and health care. It's irrational. I am sure the politicians love this shit because it can be used to distract from the more important problems facing the country. I am sure there are plenty of gun shot deaths that weren't worthy of the news ...especially if they are caused by our soldiers in other countries. So what about all those innocent Iraqi children and families that were killed? Yea ...no one gives a shit about that. That's why I call this ...irrational.

I think these "stand your ground" type laws are simply licenses to kill anyone you don't like. They spiraled out of control when they took those protections out of your home or your car and into the street. When you're cornered, you might be justified in defending yourself with lethal force if you feel threatened. But if you're able to run, you run.
