SAN FRANCISCO (AP) The celebration in San Francisco's streets over the Giants' World Series victory turned raucous and violent in some areas with people injured by gunfire, officers hurt by bottles thrown by revelers, and police making arrests.
The partying unfolded peacefully with fans gathering in the streets and uncorking champagne, lighting bonfires, dancing in a mosh pit and hugging strangers Wednesday night as their team scored its third series win in as many championship appearances, a triumph all the more gratifying by its arrival at the end of a seventh, winner-takes-all 3-2 game.
"I knew they were going to win. It's the Giants. They do this all the time," San Francisco native Barbra Norris, 54, said of the team's odds-defying win in an away game played the night after a crushing shutout in Kansas City.
But in some areas, the atmosphere grew rowdier as the night wore on.

(2,957 posts)Alcohol was involved, no doubt. I don't see the logic of celebrating your teams win by rioting and destroying property and shooting guns in public spaces.

(8,028 posts)...light fires and burn furniture, jump on and destroy people's cars and public property including busses... The police make a few arrests of the 'partying celebrators.'
Meanwhile, in Missouri, peaceful protesters are called THUGS and fired on with rubber bullets and bean bags, tear gas and mace; kettled and arrested in droves...

(5,927 posts)it's epidemic. It happens everywhere, even in supposedly 'civilized' cities. I still get burned up when I remember how those suburban white clowns ruined the celebration when the Tigers won in '84.
And Vancouver when they lost in the NHL finals a few years back.
And just about every time Michigan State wins.
and on and on.
it didn't used to be this way.
I plan on being actively involved in advocating for a clean celebration when it looks like the Lions are going to win. Such ignorant behavior doesn't do your city any good. At all.

When i lived in MI we called them the "Pontiac Pussycats" lol... glad to see they are finally learning to roar... being a Lions fan has been almost as depressing as being a Cubs fan...
Being a Lions fan has become something completely different. It is a Sacred Cause. Wish you were here.
GO LIONS
