Tea Party loses court battle over targeting to IRS

Source: USA TODAY 5:03 p.m. EDT October 23, 2014

WASHINGTON -- A federal court dismissed two lawsuits against the Internal Revenue Service Thursday, ruling that the tax agency is no longer targeting conservative tax-exempt groups for greater scrutiny.

"Unless an actual, ongoing controversy exists in this case, this court is without power to decide it," U.S. District Court Judge Reggie Walton ruled, dismissing one lawsuit brought by True the Vote, a conservative vote-monitoring organization.

True the Vote, an offshoot of the Tea Party-affiliated King Street Patriots, had its application as a social welfare group help up because the IRS suspected it was engaging in direct political election campaigning, which is forbidden under section 501(c)(4) of the tax code. IRS agents found that its web site contained "Democratic attacks and Republican/conservative response," according to confidential IRS documents obtained by USA TODAY.

Walton said the IRS has assured the public that they're no longer screening applications for tax exemptions based on its political leanings, a practice that led to the dismissal of several top IRS officials when it was disclosed by Treasury inspectors last year.

1. How is any Tea Party organization a social welfare group?

Telling poor people to just not be poor is not a social welfare policy.

2. Dry Article III, Section 2 decision

Denies plaintiffs access to federal courts. Sounds about right for a Bush appointee.

3. Just another

Just another failure on the part of Darrell Issa to get something on this president. IRA scandal - done, Benghazi - forever linked to Obama and Clinton - but done and not a word in the main stream about the Congressional hatchet job by Gowdy.....

what else? .......what else can we pin on Obama before he leaves office......they will come up with something....the one I like the best is how concerned the right is about the Secret Service protecting the President...come on... you guys on the right know, you don't give a shit about the safety of this guy or his family.........come on.....

5. Im not sure they lost, they had no case

they did secure resignations and publicity and looked good to their associates.
resignations and hubbub that gave the appearance of wrong doing.
they dont need a real Benghazi or "actual" persecution.
all they want is some fake shit to toss.
they should have hit a wall on day one and never known a moment of
capitulation.
but we are well into a new world of mythos over matter, and they like that
A LOT.

8. They can keep wasting money hurling poo

and filing frivolous cases, while the rest of us use our money to get boots on the ground to GOTV. Their numbers are artificially magnified by the complicit RW-owned M$M, which is why so much effort is expended to suppress the vote - i.e., they know that they have no chance unless they support and commit election fraud.

7. Don't they know frivolous lawsuits drive up our taxes?

These are the same conservatives that want caps on personal injury suits to afford doctors cheaper insurance. They hit the roof at the mention that someone would sue McDonalds over 3rd degree burns, but they filed a pointless lawsuit that they probably knew would fail. Who do they think pays for the court costs here, Saul F'n Alinsky?

Next they'll be burning flags and marching for affirmative action on their behalf. I think they lost their compass.
