'7th Heaven' Star Stephen Collins Reportedly Confesses To Child Molestation On Tape (UPDATE)
Source: Huffington Post
By Stephanie Marcus
TMZ has reportedly obtained audio recording of former "7th Heaven" star Stephen Collins confessing to his estranged wife, actress Faye Grant, that he molested and exposed himself to at least three young girls.
Collins and Grant are in the middle of a long and drawn out divorce, but the actor apparently confessed his crimes during a therapy session that Grant secretly recorded in 2012, according to the website.
An official in the The New York Police Department told TMZ they are now in possession of the tape, and have started an official criminal investigation of the 67-year-old actor for "inappropriate sexual contact with minors." According to the official, there are "at least three victims."
On the tape, the voice TMZ identifies as Collins' is heard saying he molested an 11-year-old relative of his first wife, Marjorie Weinman, several times.

UPDATE: Stephen Collins has now been dropped from the film "Ted 2," Entertainment Weekly reports.
UPDATE 3: A rep for SAG/AFTRA confirmed to TMZ that following the release of his confessional tapes, Stephen Collins resigned from his position on the National Board of the Screen Actors Guild.

(9,704 posts)But honestly, recording a therapy session is pretty shocking, too. Not on par with child molestation, but still...pretty bad. Maybe Collins was seeking help. Just sayin'.

(6,268 posts)and I am not at all suggesting that his actions were OK. But really- how is this right?
Won't this stop people from seeking help?
But sadly, stuff like this has happened before, and I've long had a suspicion that even D-list celebrities who visit healthcare professionals are always being secretly recorded, just in case....
Either way, that therapist needs to lose his or her license for allowing that tape to fall in the hands of TMZ...

(359 posts)The wife made the recording, the therapist had nothing to so with it. Never trust a soon to be ex-, they can be nasty in ways you would not believe. Taping a private therapy session is just one example.

(16,245 posts)Taping your spouse during a therapy session in order to get the goods on him to use in court is unconscionable, in my opinion.
I don't know if, possibly, she had some idea he had done this and so was looking for proof. That's the most charitable explanation.
But, yeah, it is crappy.

(34,131 posts)Aside from the issue of secretly recording a therapy session, which I consider completely unacceptable, are therapists required to report when child molestation is brought up?
I know from reading that teachers, doctors and some other professionals are required to report when they see evidence of molestation to a child. Is the same true when a patient self reports doing it to children?

(6,594 posts)If he wasn't guilty he would have released a statement rather then resigning from the board of SAG. He is acting like a guilty person would. At least he seems ashamed of himself, little good that does for his victims.

(448 posts)to report such acts. A past therapist told me at the beginning of our first session that she is required by law to report inappropriate behavior with children and plans of harming others ( I'm not sure about plans of suicide). When I taught elementary school, I was required to sign paperwork for the same offenses. I am shocked if this is true. But I read that he's already been fired from a small part he had in the sequel to the movie "Ted".....

The adventures of seaplane pilot and soldier of fortune Jake Cutter in the South Pacific of 1938. Jake, a former Flying Tigers pilot, made his home on the island of Boragora along with his one-eyed dog Jack and his mechanic Corky. Other companions were Bon Chance Louie, the local magistrate and owner of the Monkey Bar hangout, Sarah Stickney White, the bar's singer who was actually an American spy, and Dutch minister Willie Tenboom who was actually a German spy. Rounding out the cast of schemers was Princess Kogi, ruler of the nearby island of Matuka, and the samurai warrior Todo who commanded her private army.

(13,616 posts)First, Paedos deserve nothign but short shrift. Unlike Murderers, Theives, Pushers and others, their crimes always repeat, because they are mentally ill. Think of all the pedo priests that were moved across the country, only to do it again.
However, in spite of this, the idea that we are going to tape Therapy sessions should not be tolerated either. We have a bad enough crisis in this county; people are afraid to seek mental help because of stigma, and instead they go off to the gun range to practice their "second amendment rights." Also, while it is easy to say "well this is just a divorce case", it would be wrong. If you think that the NSA laywers are not drooling at the idea of using "precedent" to get to chew through patient/doctor priviledge, I have some fine swamp to sell you. Give them an inch, they take a whole football field worth of yards!
