Former whistleblower attacks Florida governor over healthcare fraud

Source: Reuters

An accountant who became an FBI whistleblower in a Medicare fraud investigation against a hospital chain spoke out on Monday, saying the company's former chief executive, Florida Governor Rick Scott, must have known about hundreds of millions of dollars in theft.

"Fraud was brewing in the DNA of Rick Scott's company from the very beginning, and he was the father of it," John Schilling said at a news conference organized by the rival gubernatorial campaign of Democrat Charlie Crist.

Scott is facing off against Crist in a close election battle, an expensive and closely watched political race for the nation's largest swing state.

Scott, a founder of the hospital company Colombia/HCA, was ousted as its chief executive officer in 1997 but not charged in the case. The fraud led to $1.7 billion in federal penalties, which was then the largest healthcare fraud settlement in U.S. history.

Scott would dearly love to sweep his pre-governor past under the rug.

to admit there are a lot of mal-informed stupid folks in WI

And stupid is a harsh word that i do not like to use but lately, I am inclined to use it. I have been canvassing a lot lately and I just shake my head sometimes.

Scott bailed out of that burning airplane of healthcare fraud with his golden parachutes clenching his sack full of money and never looked back. Pleaded the 5th Amendment and "I can't remember" excuse during his questioning. He was and still is the master of evasion a sorry excuse for a governor - but, hey, he's a Republican in a Republican state so how bad can he really be?

during his 'testimony'. There was virtually no coverage of that four years ago, though, so a lot of people didn't know. Still true today. And yes, the impression and noise that comes out of Florida is decidedly Republican, but let's not forget that the state was won by Obama both in 2008 and 2012. So it's hard to consider it a 'Republican state'. It's mind-blowing that this is a close race, but Charlie is being portrayed as an extreme flip-flopper and an Obama lover. With the constant anti-Democrat lies and the president's numbers low, this might work. What could save us is the younger citizens actually GOTV for the medical marijuana ballot initiative.

Problem is that the Republican legislature has gerrymandered the districts so much, they almost guarantee their winning...Democrats usually carry a majority of the popular vote...his win was very narrow...but the Democratic Party is still alive and fighting in the land of "Flori-duh." If only the weather were better in Seattle!

This guy made a fortune off Medicare fraud and then refused to expand Medicaid. How is this race even close?
