TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A U.S. Border Patrol agent stationed in Nogales, Arizona, is facing a charge of aggravated assault in an incident involving a 15-year-old migrant boy.

Aldo Arteaga surrendered to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office on Thursday after an internal affairs investigation by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the border patrol's parent agency, was turned over to the sheriff's office. He has been placed on administrative leave.

A Customs and Border Protection spokesman said he did not know the details about the Jan. 30 incident but said it involved a Mexican teenage boy who was being detained at the Nogales Border Patrol station.

Arteaga, 35, has been with the agency for nine years. It appears Arteaga continued to work for the Border Patrol while the incident was being investigated internally.
