Climate protesters plan to risk arrest during (Monday) Flood Wall Street sit-in

Hundreds of protesters plan to risk arrest on Monday during an unsanctioned blockade in New York Citys financial district to call attention to what organisers say is Wall Streets contribution to climate change.
The Flood Wall Street demonstration comes on the heels of Sundays international day of action that brought some 310,000 people to the streets of New York City in the largest single protest ever held on over climate change. There were no arrests or incidents in Sundays massive march, police said.
Flood Wall Street organisers said they wanted to use the momentum gained by Sundays march to highlight the role of capitalism in fuelling the climate crisis. As many as 2,000 participants will meet in lower Manhattans Battery Park before a planned noon march to Wall Street and the steps of the New York Stock Exchange for a sit-in and blockade without a police permit, event organisers said.
Some 200 people have said they will risk arrest by the New York City Police Department during the civil disobedience action, said spokeswoman Leah Hunt-Hendrix.

(14,549 posts)So while we may be thinking about what kind of world we want to leave for a our grandkids, they are thinking about selling their real estate in the Outer Banks and buying farmland in upstate NY and PA. (We have seen an influx of Amish farmers who are getting priced out of PA farmland.)
They care about money and climate change is already forcing some to spend:

(484 posts)is 310,000 people risking arrest for civil disobedience. Let them try to arrest that many. If the revolution, political or otherwise is to come about, we all need to come together and reach a critical mass. It's easy to take down 200. It's next to impossible to take down 100's of thousands. After all, the 1% cannot exist without the 99% acquiescing to their debauchery.
