Jameis Winston benched by Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher for ‘derogatory’ comments about women

Source: NY Daily News

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Jameis Winston has made lewd comments about women and Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher says he has decided to bench the Seminoles’ quarterback for his “derogatory” remarks.

Winston will sit out the first half of Saturday’s game against Clemson.

Several students tweeted Winston stood on campus Tuesday and shouted a lascivious comment that may have derived from an internet meme.............

Florida State is currently under investigation by the Department of Education for the way it handles reports of sexual assault, including a case involving Winston. The investigation was prompted by a complaint from a FSU student who says Winston assaulted her in 2012.

This is undoubtedly a genius move by someone under the cloud of a rape investigation.

What is more distressing is seeing some of the comments online from men who think what he said was not that bad. It IS that bad! Not just because he is under a rape investigation but wrong without that hanging over his head. I'm not sure if it is ignorance or just arrogance. These guys have never been held to any standard until the sponsors started bailing on them.

Gets paid big bucks to make "lewd comments about women" and "derogatory remarks"...bench Rush's cyst ridden ass......No time is ever a good time to disrespect men or women but to do this when the news cycle is hugely focused on the issue of male abusive behavior towards women is particularly insensitive specially when its someone like Winston who is personally linked to rape allegations ....what Winston said loudly and in public was both sexually explicit and vulgar

IMO if this were a third string player instead of a star he'd have been out at least 2 games. And if a third string player had rape allegations leveled against him he'd have been off the team already.

I'm shocked he is being punished at all. Doesn't matter what strong the player is, FSU is not known for their discipline.

She was in the hospital for a week and can never have children. 3 years later she's still a wreck. FSU did fucking nothing to bring these heinous criminals to justice, didn't even send out an alert to the female students. It's a horrible school when it comes to keeping young womemn safe.

back in the 90s they suspended quite a few players for a half OR the full game if the opponent was The Citadel or some cupcake...

Glad you're here! Seems VERY MUCH the proverbial slap on the wrist. Or maybe the slap near the wrist, or in the same room as the wrist. Oh gee. Wow. I'm quaking at the very thought of such a huge punishment!

This was the absolute LEAST they could get away with. He's a serial troublemaker, another arrogant entitled athlete who thinks he's above the rules. This is the fourth time he's been caught doing crimes/breaking rules/having inexcusable behaviors.

conditions are met.

First, all university administrators must take a 10% pay cut that gets shifted to an underclass tuition aid fund.

Second, the Economics Department must return all Koch brothers endowments and stipulations over review of hirees.

Third, all athletes' criminal charges must mean instant removal from teams.

It's going on four years that FSU hasn't listened to me, even though I've donated $1 for every person in the incoming freshman class in the past.
