Gaza Mortar Fire Kills Child In Southern Israel: Army

Source: Agence France-Presse

AN Israeli child was killed by mortar fire from Gaza last night, the Israeli army said, bringing the number of civilians killed in Israel during the 46-day conflict with Hamas to four.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Hamas it would pay a “heavy price’’ for the child’s death.

“A short while ago, a mortar hit near a kindergarten in the Sdot Negev regional council, killing an Israeli child,” a statement from the army read.

The victim was the first child in Israel to be killed by projectiles fired by Palestinian militants since July 8.

It is just my opinion that mortars are much harder to make and would take a full scale manufacturing plant versus the rockets, which would only take a simple machining shop.

Well there is a big difference between their Quassam rockets and American Hellfire missiles.

I am guessing the mortars are Russian or American made. Likely coming through Egypt.

Children die because adults are incapable of coming to fair compromises...like adults.

If it were up to me I would toss the leaders of Israel, Gaza and the West Bank all in a room with no AC, food or water and let them sit there until they decide to act like reasonable human beings.

Jerusalem - A rocket fired from Gaza hit a synagogue in the Israeli city of Ashdod on Friday, wounding three people, police said.

"There is damage at the scene and a number of people were injured by shrapnel," police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld said. The attack came shortly before evening prayers ahead of the Jewish Sabbath. Ashdod is around 30km from Gaza.

Hamas and other militant groups fired more than two dozen rockets into Israel on Friday, injuring two other people, with no signs of a let up in the six-week war.

That child hit by a mortar? It was his/her own fault, since he /she was a Jew.

(Well, that is exactly what Hamas has said.)

The death of a child, whether Israeli or Palestinian, is tragic and sad. The number of children killed in this conflict is alarming, regardless of their ethnicity. It can be 1 child on one side and 90 children on the other (those aren't actual numbers, I don't know the numbers) - all 91 deaths are tragedies and important.

Don't let your bias of the conflict impact your morals to the point that the death of an innocent child is not important or worth your time. Otherwise, you become the people you protest against.

Ideally they do everything they can to get that number close to zero.

What was the ratio, for instance, of American to Iraqi civilians killed in that invasion?
