Military device used on Detroit protest against #WaterShutoffs

Source: Daily Kos

Nine persons were arrested at the entrance to Homrich, a demolition contractor working on a $5.6 million deal to perform the water shutoffs on residents. The rally outside the gate started at 6:30am and went for seven hours before arrests were made. Police believed the group would disperse and head to the rally downtown at Hart Plaza. The group however showed their commitment holding the gate after that rally had started.

A LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Device) was used to disperse a rally at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 2:43pm. There has been previous use of an LRAD in Detroit on May 1, 2012 when Occupy Detroit gathered on the public sidewalk outside Grand Circus Park after park closing hours of 10pm.

The sound dispersed the crowd which had a peaceful assembly with speakers discussing the human right to water, and the hypocrisy of Michigan's Emergency Manager Law (PA 436 of 2012), which was brought forth after the public voted down the Emergency Manager Law (PA 4) during the November elections. Rally speakers brought the position of Detroit is being ruled by an implanted dictator who is dismantling sections of local government. Those assembled resist the interest of Kevyn Orr, the EM of Detroit, in moving the public water to a privatized service.

I can't help wondering if all of these inhumane actions are just ways of making people leave their homes, to get their property, sell it and miraculously resurrect Detroit? And the other 11 Michigan cities under the imposed Emergency Management Law?

Demand Publicly Funded Federal, State, and Local Elections and turn out in large numbers all over the country! Protest in front of the TV and Radio stations! Make signs showing how much your candidates have raised from Big Money interests, the more they raise, the more we ask, "What do you have to do for that money?" And "This is how much it takes to buy _______!"

the use of LRAD is a technique used by the Japanese Military on Sea Shepherd. Does this mean Japan owns Detroit now?? ahem got ear plugs? LRAD only works for so long

During the Obama administration, according to Pentagon data, police departments have received tens of thousands of machine guns; nearly 200,000 ammunition magazines; thousands of pieces of camouflage and night-vision equipment; and hundreds of silencers, armored cars and aircraft.

The solution is to NOT let the GOP take over state legislatures and governor offices by not staying home and letting their bigoted voting base run things.

That is what happened to Michigan and a lot of red states. Once a crowd of Baggers is in office they work to appease their Koch masters and privatize and sell off everything. Their voters elected Synder, Walker, Scott, Perry, etc.

Not the disenfranchised people of Detroit, who did nothing to deserve what's happening to them, not one bit, IMO.

That sound can damage ears, especially babies. measure the decibels?.

I think people should scream, lay on the ground, and then sue the F in' crap out of the city officials!

Suppose its a crime to follow behind the shutoff people and turn the water right on again?

A very frequently asked question is "Can infrasonic waves kill you?” The answer to this question is yes but don't worry because not all frequencies of infrasound can really hurt you. This lethal frequency lies in 7 Hz. It is believed that 7 Hz is lethal because it matches the frequencies of your brain and organs. This match of frequencies can cause serious damage to your body or even death. Nausea, nervousness, cold, paranoia, depression, and blurred moments in peripheral vision are some common feeling that can be caused by infrasound. (Wikipedia, 2012), (Lowertheboom, n.d.)

well the gentrification that has been going on in 'urban' areas in the last 20 years or so cannot be disproved for the intent behind it. A lot of 'minority' urban communities have been subject to this very kind of dismantling for the richer people of this society to makeover in their image. Cincinnati and it's gentrification battles comes to mind. More and more military applications are being used on the citizens. Hmmmm, I wonder..............................

protestors are armed and are just itching for an excuse to kill cops. Left wing protestors are trying to be peaceful. That's why they are easily dispersed. I know I'm not willing to die to keep cows off federal land. But if I find a bunch of unarmed folks with placards, I'll mow right through them.

You can find a whole cast of characters who blame these 'pieces of shit' for their water shutoffs!

For their own 'problems'.

That if they'd just 'pay their bills' they'd still have water...

That direct action against these shutoffs is stealing or worse...

Meanwhile millionaire sports team owners owe millions in facility fees for their own use and the golf courses where those ordering the shutoffs play on weekends owe hundreds of thousands of dollars in back usage fees.

SOLIDARITY with these direct action activists and those who refuse to abide by shutoff notices.

But while there is a 15 day halt on shutting off water, the water department will be checking the houses they shut off for illegal use of water. Grist.org has an article with some more information:
