Incoming Ukrainian President Poroshenko Requests More Time Before Signing EU Deal

Source: WSJ

BRUSSELS—The winner of Sunday's presidential election in Ukraine has told senior European Union leaders he wants some time before committing to a major economic and political deal with the European Union, according to more than half a dozen officials briefed on conversations.

Officials say they have seen no evidence that incoming Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko is wavering on the agreement, and they still expect him to finalize the deal over the next couple of months. But they say the chocolate billionaire has sent the message that he will approach the Europeans when he is ready.

>

The EU had consistently said it stands ready to sign the complete agreement after Ukraine's presidential election. According to provisional results, Mr. Poroshenko received some 57% of the vote in Sunday's election, meaning he almost certainly clinched victory in the first round.

>

According to the diplomats, Mr. Seeuws said that Mr. Poroshenko had requested that a statement on Ukraine issued Tuesday night after a summit of EU heads of government exclude any reference to the EU-Ukraine accord. Neither the drafts of the statement nor the final version mentioned the accord.

Poroshenko doesn't want to delay signing too long, and run the risk of being removed from office by another Western-sponsored coup, but he also wants to postpone as long as possible publicly admitting that he is going to assist Western bankers and "Vulture Capitalists" in their "Free Market" looting of his country.

This will be one tightrope walk to watch closely.

Billionaire Poroshenko who soared to a commanding victory in Ukraine's presidential election said Monday that he would demonstrate his commitment to "serving the people," instead of increasing his personal wealth, by selling his main assets — including the Roshen chocolate company — but would keep hold of the television station.

Describing his reasons for retaining Channel Five, Poroshenko said it "has never been sold and will not be sold," Ukrainska Pravda reported.

Poroshenko also said the country's free press had played a crucial role in the public protests that had ousted Ukraine's previous administration.

That you think anyone would believe this is pathetic.

Why the hell does anyone think Biden's son is in on this, on the contract side of things? Russia fucked Ukraine, hard, over a shitty contract that put all the responsibility on Ukraine for issues arising from the operation of the pipelines.

The same damn propagandists would be saying "but, but, that was fast tracked now wasn't it?!?"

Followed of course by canned talking points about US imperialism...
