Source: Tampa Bay Times
A Clearwater police spokeswoman says there has been a shooting at the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort and Spa on Clearwater Beach.
Avoid the area. It's unclear if police have anyone in custody. Traffic also is affected as police have several streets blocked off. Police are not letting drivers cross the Memorial Causeway to the beach.
Police put the hotel and at least one neighboring motel in lock down during the shooting. Several businesses in the area reported hearing gunshots and crowds of people running from the scene. There were conflicting reports about the nature of the shooting.

According to Twitter accounts there may still be an active shooter there...
Details coming in, hazy, etc.

I hope no one gets killed.

(15,189 posts)Damn parents just can't get over it. Gotta cry and make a fuss.
I still say let them have their guns, just make it hard to get ammo. The cows already out of the barn here, so make them have to register their ammo, and EVERY year audit their weapons and ammo. I am all for getting rid of guns, but if we make it harder and more expensive, buy insurance, bullet proof windows at home so you don't shoot your neighbors "by accident".
That's how we win, as long as we can get enough Dems in congress with a spine.

(255 posts)I'm sure I'll hear all about it tomorrow. My bet is the parking garage but I don't know. I've seen some tense moments in there. And I'm sure you're right. It's not the last incident. Not too long ago, at a Condo down the bch, one of the painters lost his cool and tried to take out a security guard with a claw hammer. He cut his arm on glass from the guard shack and bled out in an elevator. Not a pretty sight.

I'm driving part-time for Uber now, and was thinking about going over there this evening and try to pick up some fares.

(8,846 posts)Sources tell 10 News that several people are in custody and one suspected shooter is at large. He may be in a green Taurus headed South of Clearwater Beach. Police are searching for a man with long dreadlocks, wearing red pants and a black tank top.
Clearwater Police are calling this an "active shooter incident at the beach."
Bridges in and out of Clearwater Beach are being closed to traffic.
Police advise avoiding the area at all costs.

(8,846 posts)LEARWATER Three separate shootings occurred on Clearwater Beach on Monday evening, sparking chaos and confusion as people ran for cover.
One of the shootings happened near the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort and Spa, according to Clearwater police. The first call came in at 6:48 p.m.
Police ask the public to avoid the area. Police are not letting drivers across the Memorial Causeway unless they can show proof that they live on the beach.
They say they have two people in custody and are still searching for others. At least two people were shot, including one who fled the scene.
Immediately after the shooting, police put the Hyatt and at least one neighboring motel in lock down. Several area businesses reported hearing gunshots and crowds of people running from the scene.
There were conflicting reports about the nature of the shooting, but several people reported it be a conflict between two groups.
A Tampa Bay Times photographer saw police take one man into custody on Gulf Boulevard in Belleair Beach about 8 p.m.
Cody Holdsworth, a 23-year-old server at the nearby Crabby Bill's restaurant, was working the tables outside when she said fights started breaking out on the beach. There were swarms of kids involved, she said.

(255 posts)are getting off easy. I talked with a gal today that was with a group of friends when it all broke out. People fighting and loud arguments. Then she heard three pops and everyone scattered. Except for people talking about it, all seems back to normal today.
