Romney: Fair for GOP to fundraise on Benghazi
Source: The Hill
Former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney on Friday said it was fair for Republicans to use their investigation into the Benghazi terror attack to fundraise and elect candidates in the midterms.
"There would not be an investigation into Benghazi, there would not be an investigation into the IRS were there not a Republican House," said Romney on MSNBCs Morning Joe when asked if it was appropriate to fundraise off the probe.
So to say, look, elect Republicans, so that we have these kinds of investigations is appropriate," he added.
Democrats have slammed Republicans for sending out a fundraising pitch off the new House select committee investigating the attack. The National Republican Campaign Committee has posted a number of blogs about the investigation with links to fundraising pages on the website benghaziwatchdogs.com.
The chairman of the committee, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), has called on his Republican colleagues to refrain from fundraising off the investigation. But Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) sidestepped questions about the money pitch, saying that his focus was on getting the answers to what happened during the deadly attack that killed four Americans.

(32,017 posts)Of all the people on Earth from whom I might seek sound judgment on questions of equity and fairness, the last person I would consult would be Mitt Romney. His life of complete privilege blinds him to the concerns and pain of millions of people and disqualifies him from speaking on the subject.
Buzz off, Mitt.

(7,392 posts)Or the 241 marines killed in Lebanon under Reagan? 9/11 took 1,000 times the lives of Benghazi and Lebanon took 80 times the lives. The difference is that Republicans have no shame. And they certainly have no ethics.

(11,342 posts)Keep saying that, Republicans. You are the party of senseless, baseless investigations that tie up government and waste public resources.

(59,476 posts)Within hours of the Benghazi attacks, he blasted the US Cairo embassy for putting up a message that the film did not represent the US - written and posted BEFORE Benghazi. Romney made a craven political comment that attacked these people who were serving the country in an unstable Egypt. Fortunately, most of the country contrasted his cravenness with the genuine concern of Obama and Clinton.
Someone needs to ask the new committee members who was the first politician to have a statement containing BOTH the film and Benghazi. Wonder if anyone would get it right?

(12,287 posts)there has been no investigations. And the Republican lead House aren't the only ones that have investigated Benghazi like he is insinuating. Even the FBI and The State Department had investigations. What 5 House Committees already? Mitt Romney always did deflect.
