Ukraine alert as politician 'killed'

Ukraine's acting president has relaunched military operations against pro-Russian militants in the east after two men, one a local politician, were found "tortured to death".

Oleksandr Turchynov said the politician, named as Vladimir Rybak, was found near rebel-held Sloviansk.

"The terrorists who effectively took the whole Donetsk region hostage have now gone too far," he said.

The move came as US Vice-President Joe Biden was visiting Ukraine.

A Ukrainian military surveillance plane was hit and damaged by small arms fire as it was on a reconnaissance flight over the rebel-held eastern town of Slavyansk, the defence ministry said on Tuesday

The plane, a propellor-driven Antonov An-30, safely made an emergency landing, a ministry spokesman told AFP. None of its crew members was hurt.

2. Dead body resembling kidnapped deputy of Horlivka council found in Sloviansk

A dead body of a man resembling member of Horlivka Town Council Volodymyr Rybak, who was abducted a few days ago, has been found in the town of Sloviansk in Donetsk region. According to the city's Web portal Gorlovka.ua, the dead body was found near the Siversky Donets River. "A notification has come from Sloviansk, where a body of a man, who looks like member of Horlivka Town Council Volodymyr Rybak, who was kidnapped in Horlivka by unknown masked men, was found... The investigation will now be launched, as the criminal proceedings were started previously under Part 2 of Article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (the unlawful confinement or kidnapping)," Head of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's branch in Horlivka Andriy Kryschenko told the portal.

3. Must be scary to live there. I read several local leaders were 'arrested when putin first started to

invade. Then again more locals missing, when the "new-combat-uniformed" Russian militant thugs moved in.
One was their local hospital administrator & the hospital workers are so scared and worried about him.
