Argentine Supreme Court rules women free to terminate pregnancies resulting from rapes
By Associated Press, Updated: Tuesday, March 13, 2:28 PM

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Argentina’s Supreme Court has ruled that any rape victim can get an abortion, setting a historic precedent in a country where abortions are generally illegal.

Until now, it has been up to a judge to decide which rape victims can get abortions, and generally only women with mental disabilities have been approved. In several well-publicized cases, even young girls who had been raped were forced to carry out their pregnancies.

The Supreme Court now says no rape victim can be punished for terminating a pregnancy. And they no longer need a court order. All they need to provide to a doctor is a sworn declaration.

The Roman Catholic Church is condemning Tuesday’s unanimous ruling, saying abortions are wrong even in the event of a rape.

to get their noses out of what doesn't concern them.

Argentina is free to govern the way it sees fit, not how the bishop of rome sees fit.

in the US that want to ban all abortions, no matter how the pregnancy started, even in cases of rape. They say it would be too hard to prove a rape happened. I read a 300+ thread today about this very thing. One of the guys even called the woman an "ark" and that she has no right to make any decision about it. So the rapist has more rights than her in determining if a baby is going to be born from her womb.
Made me sick to read it. But you gotta know what the enemy is saying, otherwise you can't counter it.

Cuba is the only Latin American country that has US/Canada-style protections for choice. Though the war on women here in the US is trying to erode that.

Boycott religion, and tax them like everyone else gets taxed. Why should the public subsidize delusions?

The main difference was that it had been up to a judge to give the authorization.

The Catholic Church's objections ring of hypocrisy considering the length of time that church officials covered up for the rape and abuse of children.

Why don't they stick to doing the things their God talked about...instead of hyper-focusing on women's genitalia and the promotion and defense of rapist priests.
