‘Egypt to sign int'l document acknowledging Armenian genocide,’ interim President tweets

Source: Hurriyet Daily News - Istanbul, Turkey

Egypt is preparing to recognize one of Turkey’s darkest pages of history, its interim president has said, as the ties between both countries became further strained with the latest crackdown on supporters of the deposed president, Mohamed Morsi.

“Our representatives at the United Nations will sign the international document that acknowledges the Armenian genocide, which was committed by the Turkish military, leading to the deaths of one million,” Adly Mansour said via a post on the Twitter account @Adly_Mansour Aug. 17, the news website Al-Bawaba reported.

Somehow I don't get the feeling this is because of a long, deep debate on the subject amongst Egypt's new rulers...

1. That's what Erdogan gets for criticizing the Cairo massacre.

Take that!

2. Adli Mansour is in a snit.

Seriously. What's next? They'll all sit around at the next international meeting flinging " target="_blank">poo at each other while calling each other silly names?

Some of the MB's views may stoke outrage. But the current crop of "leaders" is just embarrassing--I mean, really, I'll let them share the same genus as me, but do we really have to be the same species?

And this guy was a top judge? "There, you said something nasty about us, we'll say something nasty about you! Take that! Ptoo!"

While Tamarod is there saying that if we're talking about taking away our aid they should just deny it entirely--all of it. And abrogate the Israel/Egypt treaty. "There! Take that, Mubarak Obama!"

Somebody should call their mothers to come and collect them. It's obviously time for their afternoon naps.

That reminds me, gotta get moving and make the sushi for my wife's birthday futomaki.

4. Turkey should just come out and admit it happened...

...it was a horrible deed done by the worst of the worst of their people at that time. Why dance around it? Everyone involved is dead and no reason why they should pay restitution because of dead ancestors. Admitting it would begin the healing process for both sides....unless of course, they don't want to heal.

5. This is a positive move that should be cheered.

The Turkish authorities should take a look in the mirror.

6. At least the Turks aren't gunning down demonstrators by the hundreds.

In fact, the heavy-handed Turkish response to recent mass protests looks positively enlightened by comparison with the murderousness of the Egyptian authorities.
