Oil spilled on Miss. River after vessel collision


LAPLACE, La. - Around 2 a.m., the Coast Guard received reports that oil was being released from a crane barge after colliding with a motor vessel on the Mississippi River.

The waterway is open near the scene of the accident at mile marker 139 near Laplace.

There are no reported injuries and no count on how much oil has been spilled at this time.

Officials with Environmental Safety and Health and the New Orleans Cost Guard are on the scene.
