(68,644 posts)You are right; a large number of typical 15 year old boys look like dickwad wannabe ganstas'.
That is a fact. It's a look they want to adopt and it's pathetic. Especially when they threaten entire schools.
ForgoTheConsequence
(4,846 posts)He looks like me. But wait he's a little dark so he's probably a "wannabe gansta" whatever the fuck that means. You sound like the people who defend Zimmerman "BUT TRAYVON WAS WEARING A HOODIE HE LOOKED SUSPICIOUS".
Tell us what a "wannabe gangsta" looks like, please.

(11,589 posts)You know, I kinda think Trayvon Martin looked normal. Tell me what is normal?
You know, without accusing a DU'er of what people sound like. How about that?

(4,846 posts)Like "gangsta".

(5,842 posts)This former 15 year old boy and his friends did a lot of dumb-ass things but we didn't make idiotic statements threatening violence.
People excuse way too much under the guise of youthful moronic behavior.

(13,028 posts)I wish that people would think it through before they make comments like that that only play right into the hands of the right wing. I can understand the frustration but lashing out and threatening violence, whether it's a serious threat or not, is not the answer.

(7,390 posts)Don't the police have anything better to do than to monitor what people are tweeting or posting to Facebook? Do the police want to arrest every 15 year old boy with a little swagger? I am far more bothered by the excessive police surveillance this demonstrates than I am with the rant of a 15 year old. The kid makes a good point but makes a mistake by personalizing it. After all, if Zimmerman walks we have the blueprint for legalized murder.

(6,324 posts)It is either someone he knows, or their parents, or more likely it is one of what are probably hundreds of right wingers just searching every twitter post with #zimmerman on it to try and find the few idiots they can use to try and portray everyone with dark skin as violent savages ready to riot. Reporting it and getting an arrest just serves to validate their narrative even more to the fools that believe them.
DallasNE
(7,390 posts)It is the same lack of judgment driving the decision whether it is them doing the actual surveillance or some stooge doing it in their behalf.
Lee-Lee
(6,324 posts)the gross overreaction to virtually anything kids do these days that somebody, somewhere, might take as a threat?
The police are bad, the schools are even worse.
Nobody is allowed to exercise common judgement anymore, this "zero tolerance" crap is forcing everybodies hand.
I turned down a chance to be a school resource officer for this reason.

(7,390 posts)For having an empty plastic bag in his backpack in school that tested for a trace of marijuana. Obviously schools do random searches without probable cause. This is an obvious case of overreaction on a first offense. Too bad they are not so diligent in the classroom.
Oh, we know what is driving this zero tolerance. Just look at the strong move to private prisons. Another case of follow the money.

(6,324 posts)If he had not been suspended from school for possession if an empty bag that some school administrator suspected may have previously held a plant they dislike.
He never would have been all that way up in Sanford on a school night, and Zimmerman wouldn't have found a suspicious negro to go after on his way to Target.

(6,241 posts)Eric Harris posted a video threat against one of his classmates more than a year before Columbine. They didn't investigate further. They wrote an affidavit for a search warrant, but didn't file it, and didn't do the search. If they had investigated further, they would have found the weapons the boys were going to use and probably stopped it before it started.
I honestly can't blame them for erring on the side of caution.

(1,110 posts)Given this country's history with such events, I don't have an issue with this. If he did follow through with his threat, the police who arrested him would be chastised for not going after him.
DallasNE
(7,390 posts)You are focusing on just the threat part. From my earlier post: "The kid makes a good point but makes a mistake by personalizing it." If this was a straight forward threat I would agree with you but if is far more nuanced than that so you have to look at the total statement. The point he looks to be making is that if Zimmerman walks we have the blueprint for being able to get away with murder but he made a mistake by personalizing it to include a threat component. Had he worded it along the line of "what would prevent someone from walking into Zion Benson High School, shooting up the place and getting away with it just like Zimmerman". That's a legitimate question that will have to be answered with an acquittal verdict.
