GOP Senators Unveil Bill To Spare Pentagon From Automatic Defense Cuts

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Tx4obama (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

By Associated Press,

WASHINGTON — Republican senators are trying to spare the Pentagon from nearly $500 billion in cuts that will kick in automatically next January because the congressional deficit-cutting panel failed to find a way to reduce spending.

President Barack Obama says he will veto any effort to undo the automatic cuts affecting the Pentagon and domestic programs to reduce spending.

to make a case that the President is soft on defense. Of course the President will veto the bill, and rightly so, the veto can only strengthen his appeal to his progressive/liberal base. Again, the republiCONS shoot themselves in the foot!

I've seen hopeful signs that President Obama has decided to quit being quite so accommodating, but the defense budget brings out all the heavy hitters, and a LOT of pressure to bear. A good statement in February can wilt in the heat of September, as budget battles rage and election campaigns are hot.

This campaign season will be awful.

As a matter of fact, Obama's campaign against Mitt (or Newt) won't be his biggest fight this time around. The biggest & meanest & disgusting campaign against him will be the Citizen's United money - domestic & foreign.

The GOP has proven that if the facts don't work in their favour, they'll just make shit up. The campaign ads were always going to be vicious. Obama could have walked on water while whipping up a cancer cure between strides and the GOP would still attack him as the reincarnation of Stalin.

why is war so much more profitable than peace. Its like the 1% feed off the death of our soldiers. wait a minute they do. (insert picture of legendary Vulture Capitalist Mitt Romney feeding off a Dead American Soldier)

How the cuts are avoided is another question. The Democrats and Obama will try to avoid them with a deficit-reduction package that will include various revenue increasing measures as well as budget cuts. The Repugs will try to avoid any tax increases. What happens in the end is anybody's guess.
