Increased Alcohol Prices May Decrease Deaths

Source: RTT News

A drop in alcohol related deaths may be linked to increased prices, says a new study from researchers at University of Victoria's Centre for Addictions Research of British Columbia.

For the study, researchers collected data in British Columbia between 2002 and 2009. They found that a ten percent price increase in government controlled alcohol retailers led to a 32 percent drop in reported alcohol related deaths.

"This study adds to the scientific evidence that, despite popular opinion to the contrary, even the heaviest drinkers reduce their consumption when minimum alcohol prices increase. It is hard otherwise to explain the significant changes in alcohol-related deaths observed in British Columbia," says lead researcher Tim Stockwell.

Their data appears this month in the journal Addiction.

4. The craft beer is 5 bucks because it costs more to brew.

Not because the government decided to charge more for them to cut down on fatalities. I don't drink piss beer and haven't in 15 years. It has always been expensive to drink good beer because it's more expensive to brew and or import.

I'm going to try and keep it 'til next year, hoping it'll mellow a bit with age. There's more beer than food in my fridge though, so I'll have to make room and get rid of the only food (a package of hot dogs.)

will yield results like this:

The flavors are more balanced than Mad Elf, with 12% ABV to boot. Pick up some next year!

Prices went up significantly in the wake of voting to eliminate state stores. New taxes, new prices. 15-20% increases for hard liquor.

It truly sucks.

to buy premium liquors, spirits and beers. While the poorer segment of society will have to buy the cheap shit to get a buzz. Because quite frankly, after the first one, it's not about the taste buds, but the effect. It's like the difference between Courvoisier XO and Mad Dog 20/20.
