Mike Huckabee says removing God from schools is to blame for shooting
Source: http://now.msn.com/huckabee-blames-school-shooting
As the nation mourns and asks how could something like the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting happen, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has an idea: It's because God is absent from our schools. While speaking with Fox New's Neil Cavuto, Huckabee answered the question, "How could God let this happen?" by saying, "We've systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be so surprised that schools have become a place for carnage because we've made it a place where we don't want to talk about eternity, life, responsibility, accountability?" Huckabee's words quickly made him a trending topic on Twitter, with some users applauding his comments, while others said his statement lacked empathy. Read more: MSN ![]() Every bit as despicable as Robertson and Falwell's comments post-9/11. Expect FOX to make this supposed "Christian" apologize a week from never. Meanwhile, the gun lobby accuses everyone else of "politicizing" the shooting.

17. OK Mikey. Then how do you explain this one?
The St. Pius X High School shooting was a school shooting that occurred on October 27, 1975 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The gunman, Robert Poulin, an 18-year-old St. Pius student, opened fire on his classmates with a shotgun, killing one and wounding five before killing himself. Poulin had raped and stabbed 17-year old Kim Rabot to death prior to the incident. A book entitled Rape of a Normal Mind was written about the incident.
Care to withdraw your accusations now or would you rather opt for a "quiet" 24 hour period (per NRA requirements) first? ![]() |

Even if someone had been in possession of a weapon at this school, they would not have had the time to stop this. Unless the 5 yr olds had carried the weapon. Which is just moronic to suggest. Kids that want to pray can easily do so legally. You just can't force my child to pray to your god, and that is enough to cause your god to cause a shooting of innocent children. You and your cohorts are a bunch of sick fucks and should keep these opinions to those who agree with you. |

No, that would be the Old Testament where God does that. The news here was that a hellbent nutcase with a gun committed the crime. It seems God is innocent of this one Huck, so try not to divert the argument to something completely irrelevant. |

51. no it's not....
gutting mental health resources is the root of this problem. Clearly, this man had issues which culminated in him taking human life today... and against children who never did anything to him.
god has nothing to do with it. Anyone can access god at anytime they choose--it does not have to be done in a school. If you want god in your school, then pay to send your kid to a religious school. Period. My parents paid to send me to a catholic school for 12 year, not that the religiosity stuck, but they sacrificed the extras for themselves back in those days to do that. |

56. Attributing this to characters like god or the devil shifts focus from the real issues...
When you believe you understand the cause completely, and to fix it you just pray a little more or "give yourself to Jesus", you become unlikely to take evidence based action towards really addressing, and reducing the chances of things like this happening.
Making them read an ambiguous primitive scripture rather than texts on ethics and sociology. Creating more churches rather than less divisive community centers. Pushing Biblical ideals rather than modern neurology and psychology. Paying for Bible classes and chaplains rather than publicly funding mental health facilities. |

60. Oh, Huckabee is the LAST PERSON who should be condemning crime,
given his controversial clemencies to two prisoners who would go on to murder after their freedom.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Huckabee#Clemency_controversies As governor, Huckabee commuted and accepted recommendations for pardon for twice as many sentences as his three predecessors combined; in total: 1,033 prisoners.[67] Twelve of those had previously been convicted of murder.[68] Huckabee’s pardons and commutations became an issue during the 2008 Republican Primary, with most of the controversy focusing on Wayne Dumond.[69][70] Huckabee's handling of clemency petitions received national attention in November 2009 with the case of Maurice Clemmons. Clemmons had committed burglary without a weapon, and his 60-year sentence was commuted by Huckabee to 47 years, making him eligible for parole if approved by the parole board. The prosecuting attorney of Pulaski County, Arkansas vehemently objected to the commutation. As factors in his decision, Huckabee cited the unusually long sentence of 108 years for Clemmons, who was 17 at the time, that Clemmons had already served 11 years of jail time, the unanimous decision by the bipartisan state pardon board in Clemmons's favor, and the original trial judge's support for clemency. When Clemmons received the 60-year sentence, he already was serving 48 years on five felony convictions and facing up to 95 more years on charges of robbery, theft and possessing a handgun on school property.[71][72] After his release in 2000 Clemmons was arrested a number of times for multiple offenses including child molestation and aggravated assault, but was released after prosecutors declined to file charges. On November 29, 2009, four police officers were murdered in Lakewood, Washington, and Clemmons was named by witnesses as the only suspect. After a two-day manhunt that spanned several cities in the Puget Sound region, the armed Clemmons was shot and killed by a Seattle Police Department officer in south Seattle after refusing police orders to stop charging the officer.[73] This is the DU member formerly known as alp227.

Mike is more about teaching people to fear God, and less about learning love through a personal relationship with God. Mick Huckabee's fear based religious God is a sham, but God in the true spiritual sense is about pure love.
Mike Huckabee's fear based god has no place in our culture, let alone our schools Mike Huckabee is in the same class with Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh. |

I am not shocked by any of this. I am not surprised that so many were killed today. It is becoming the norm.
I am a gun-owner. I was taught by both my father and grandfather as a boy how to use and care for a gun. I hunted with them as I grew up. When I hear grown men express their rage and helplessness by blaming others for not believing in their god, all I can feel is deeply saddened. The rage and helplessness that welled up in me today brought me to tears. I allowed myself to cry. I called my sister and spoke to my nephew who is the age of some of these children. I left the NRA a few months ago but had remained on a few email lists. Today, I removed myself from those. What a horribly tragic day. ![]() |

And aside from the obvious....WTF.....can't these right-wing evangelicals instill their Christian values in their kids without depending on the government to do it for them in our public schools? Do their kids not know how to pray silently? Does their God abandon them if someone doesn't lead them out loud in prayer every few hours? ![]() |

77. Let's get this straight,
this man does not speak for God. He does not even know the kids or teachers that lost their lives today in that school or what religion their parents follow. That is why I say he does not speak one iota for God. To suggest that 5-10 year old kids were un godly or something and that is why this happened to them is dispicable. Yet he says nothing about those that push their rethoric and profit off weapons that kill, exposes his hypocrasy. And you know what led me to speak out? It came from my conscious, which I believe God pushed me to say. And I don't even profess to be religious!

88. It's shameful that someone calling himself a man of God lies through his teeth that way.
God has not been removed from schools.
Students are free to have religious clubs and many do. The only thing that is gone is the government forcing its God (you know, the "one" God who is in the Old Testament and the New Testament--even though the two are startlingly different) down the throat of people who want their own God. Originally, the government God even excluded Jews, but now the government has become more broadminded. There's even some pretense of including the Muslim God, though it's only a pretense. However, fuck you if you are pagan, Buddhist, atheist, etc. because The Family, D Street and the rest want something else and you don't have enough money, clout or time to fight them. |

How many young people have been so turned off by these hypocrites that they refuse to have anything to do with religion? I personally subscribe to thinking of Thomas Jefferson who stripped his New Testament of all miracle nonsense that only served to detract from the basic teachings of Jesus that we are responsible for each other's welfare. Huckabee is only another charlatan that has bilked the undiscerning of their money to enrich themselves.

This man has obviously not been to a school lately. Discussions about accountability and responsibility happen all the time. Eterninty, not so much. But I am not sure how talking about eternity with a 16 year old, who thinks eternity means the time between now and summer vacation would be very effective at preventing any mass shootings. . .
