Exclusive: Trump wants Gaza ceasefire deal before inauguration, Graham says
Source: Axios

President-elect Trump wants to see a ceasefire and hostage deal in Gaza before he assumes office on Jan. 20, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told Axios in an interview.
Why it matters: Getting a Gaza deal is one of President Biden's top priorities during his last two months in office, but the lack of any clear progress in recent weeks suggests it might land on Trump's plate.
Israeli officials believe the Trump administration might take a different approach to Gaza, specifically on what the "day after" the war would look like. But Graham who speaks with Trump frequently and advises him on foreign policy, especially on the Middle East said Trump wants a deal to free the hostages and end the war as soon as possible, preferably before he takes office.
The big picture: There are still 101 hostages being held in Gaza by Hamas, including seven American citizens. Israeli intelligence services believe roughly half of them are still alive.
More than 44,000 Palestinians have been killed in more than a year of war, according to the Gaza health ministry.
"Trump is more determined than ever to release the hostages and supports a ceasefire that includes a hostage deal. He wants to see it happening now," Graham said.
"I want people in Israel and in the region to know that Trump is focused on the hostages issue. He wants the killing to stop and the fighting to end." He added: "I hope President Trump and the Biden administration will work together during the transition period to release the hostages and get a ceasefire."

(233 posts)Why should Biden do anything about this? Trump said he would solve all these problems on his first day on the job. Let all those people who voted against Harris see how they like Trump's "solution".

(1,705 posts)The MOAB is so heavy that it cannot be carried by our old standby, the B-52 which flies high enough to avoid enemy fire.
The MOAB must be dropped by a (slow moving) and vulnerable cargo plane (MC-130) out the rear door. Both the USAF crew and plane are in danger of getting hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire.
The USAF inventory of MOABs, the most powerful non-nuclear munition in our arsenal, is limited and should be used judiciously. Trumpf must have heard it about and authorized its expensive and risky use.

(28,689 posts)Why is has consistently been blamed for the war in Gaza is beyond me. And Trump's phony claim of being a peacemaker is beyond laughable. He won't do anything that doesn't affect his personal bottom line or that helps him carry out one of his revenge schemes.

(1,930 posts)I do not, in any shape or form, give a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut what Trump wants.
The only reason Trump wants this is because he doesnt actually care about what happens there. He has no skill to accomplish peace beyond letting Bibi do whatever the fuck he wants. The failure of achieving peace would reflect badly on him and he hates his image being something other than what he believes it is.

(6,115 posts)I would go so far as to suggest any intimation that Trump wants Biden to accomplish anything is so that he can claim it was done incorrectly and he would have done it better. He is playing on both sides sentiments.
I have no evidence for my opinion other than Trumps pattern of behavior.

(34 posts)That shouldn't be too difficult, Bibi prolonged the genocide in Gaza to help get his best bud diaper don elected, ending it no would be a no brainier unless the Israeli's want more Palestinian blood, they have killed over 44,000 maybe that's not enough?

(64,219 posts)If Trump somehow gets it done, than thats good.
But it strikes me simply as pageantry and as a set-up so that Bibi can later point to some minor transgression by Hamas and claim it as justification for his deliberate war on Palstinian children.

(23,324 posts)And hell use any trick in the book to get it, including claiming that ceasefire was reached because he demanded it before he even made it to office.

(1,538 posts)Gaza supporters in US betrayed him. If Dems keep solving problems for the GOP, MAGA Trump will get credit and destroy our democracy. Naive Gaza supporters will continue to vote for Trump. Is our democracy more important? We fight for unions, working class, Middle East peace and they all backstab us. If future of democracy is important, Trump has to fail miserably.

(7,581 posts)But somewhere the rubber must meet the road. What is the framework for that peace agreement? It has to be more than carrying a big stick around, otherwise there is nothing to negotiate. And there are the "what about me" countries in the region as well. Wanting to put the toothpaste back in the tube is hard. Very hard. First, you need a framework and then hang the goodies to the framework and eventually get to an agreement. Trump seems to think that the big stick is a magic wand that makes it happen. I've heard nothing about a 2-State solution and freezing settlements or any other constructive measures. Just a lot of hot air passing as a big stick.

(14,381 posts)Before he gets in.
So Graham, who probably put it into Trump's head that Trump could "rightfully" take credit for any cease fire.. Astoundingly...even if he is out of office!!!!!!
It will be claimed as his own. Because of......private calls to Bibbi. And maybe even to Hamas. And then add onto that the great fear and respects he commands of other leaders by his mere coming into office soon.

(6,068 posts)can close the circle on his "Gaza is Biden's fault" meme and he can skip having any ceasefire tied to him. Then he can turn Netanyahu lose and use any supposed "violation" to green light moving forward to complete the ethnic cleansing, annexation and annexation in the West Bank. He will claim Joe made a "bad deal" and "forced it on Israel" and so it's not his fault.
