Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh killed in Iran, drawing threats of retaliation against Israel

Source: Reuters

CAIRO/DUBAI, July 31 (Reuters) - Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated early on Wednesday morning in Iran, the Palestinian militant group and Tehran said, drawing threats of revenge on Israel in a region already shaken by the war in Gaza and a deepening conflict in Lebanon.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards confirmed the death of Haniyeh, hours after he attended a swearing in ceremony for the country's new president, and said it was investigating.

Haniyeh, normally based in Qatar, has been the face of Hamas's international diplomacy as the war set off by the Hamas-led attack on Israel on Oct. 7 has raged in Gaza. He had been taking part in internationally-brokered indirect talks on reaching a ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave.

Hamas' armed wing said in a statement Haniyeh's killing would "take the battle to new dimensions and have major repercussions". Vowing to retaliate, Iran declared three days of national mourning and said the U.S. bears responsibility because of its support for Israel.

5. No, it's always Israel's fault.

If they get attacked and do nothing, it's their fault because Israel is always wrong because they are an illegal country.
If they get attacked and retaliate, it's their fault because Israel is genocidal and illegal anyway.

It's the normal play of western civilization throughout history. . .blame the Jews for everything.

Black Death - Jews' fault
Germany losing WW1 - Jews' fault
Great Depression - Jewish bankers' fault
Death of Christ - Jews' fault
Communism - Marx was Jewish

We are at fault for everything since the beginning of civilization. But if we fight back, we've always been wrong.

When Israel is attacked "it is necessary to look at the broader picture" as to why they were attacked

If Israel strikes back it is an "escalation"

Two birds with one stone.

I wonder what Traitor Trump and blood-soaked Netanyahu talked about?

And to hell with all the excuses anyone wants to peddle against taking out international terrorist warlords.

At least since Hamas started it.

This time, both Iran and its paid proxies are facing consequences.

You are aware there is such thing as consequences for invading Israel, aren't you?

4. Netanyahu is like Trump

He does not care about Jews or Muslims. He is about himself. The way Israel's system is, he can remain in office as long as the wars continue. He also does his best to help Trump. Sounds like George Bush war on terror. Al Quaida attacks but he fails to take care of Osama Ladin and goes on to attack Iraq. Always at war

Haniyeh would not have been taken out under similar circumstances?

Do you think any other sovereign state with the capacity to do so would not have taken out Haniyeh under similar circumstances?

Get real.

" The United States and Israel have just assassinated the dear brother Ismail Haniyeh - who was the political head of Hamas. This comes after they already murdered virtually every member of his family. In the face of this, Brother Ismail remained steadfast to Islam and to a free Palestine.

He was working hard, day and night, on the ceasefire even though these genocidal monsters had murdered his own kids and grandchildren. I never understood how he had such strength to push forward. But he knew and said that he was no different than the average Palestinian who has lost so much.

These genocidal monsters think that this weakens Hamas, or weakens the resistance, but it does neither. It will only strengthen both.

I must admit that I am furious, because they murder people with impunity. It’s absurd. But you can never destroy a people who do not believe that death is the end.

I am sending prayers to his remaining family and to the leaders who must now rise up in his place.”

There are no good people there. It is a tough peace attempt. Let Biden-Harris work on it. Trump will bring mayhem.
