CNN The campaign of independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is walking back language used in campaign fundraising emails that referred to January 6 defendants as activists who have been stripped of their constitutional liberties.
The fundraising appeals, sent to supporters on Wednesday and Thursday, sought to stoke fears of government overreach, a core theme of the campaign, by comparing the plight of Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks whom the emails referred to as a political prisoner, with the legal cases against those arrested in connection to the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.
We must free Assange now! the text in both fundraising messages reads. The Brits want to make sure our government doesnt kill Assange. This is the reality that every American Citizen faces from Ed Snowden, to Julian Assange to the J6 activists sitting in a Washington DC jail cell stripped of their Constitutional liberties.
The language closely parallels the rhetoric former President Donald Trump and his allies use to defend the January 6 rioters.
In a statement to CNN, Kennedy campaign spokesperson Stefanie Spear said the language used in the fundraising emails was an error. That statement was an error that does not reflect Mr. Kennedys views. It was inserted by a new marketing contractor and slipped through the normal approval process, Spear said.

(2,587 posts)...as we get closer to November 5th and approach early voting the focus on all the candidates will be clearer and the voters will be more aware. That has to work to our advantage.

(25,260 posts)I'm sorry, I know that this is rather tacky, but he isn't sprouting out the best things / policies statements either. He's just mouthing off what soundbites sound the best at the time, and then like today, he's already backed off on the statement that the 1/6 defendants didn't have their constitutional rights during their arrest, trial, etc. (and they did, we know that, Garland is a stickler for such things).

(48,826 posts)Sure he's got some loony lefties. But his voter base overlaps with Trump's way more. He should proudly take votes from Trump. Shake things up. Be an alternative choice.
Most Dems know he's nothing like his father and uncles.

'Robert F Kennedy Jr. just hired for his comms manager the anti-vaxxer Del Bigtree, who opened his speech on Jan 6 with "You know, it's rare that I get to follow an act like Donald Trump - you can't beat that."'
Appoint traitors as your comms manager, Bob, and pretty soon your communications will be pro-treason. "The normal approval process" is apparently "don't say this part out loud".
