WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former President Donald Trump's attorneys on Tuesday asked the judge in his trial on charges of trying to overturn the 2020 election to delay scheduling a court hearing that will help determine how evidence can be used and shared in the case.
Trump's attorneys and U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith's team clashed in a joint court filing over a hearing date before U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan to discuss the handling of evidence.
Prosecutors said they were available all week long. Trump's lawyers asked for a postponement until early next week.
On Monday, Trump's defense team opposed a request from prosecutors for Chutkan to impose a protective order to ensure confidential evidence is not shared publicly by Trump, suggesting he could use the information to intimidate witnesses.

No, No, it can't be Aug 11. That's my birthday (as a natural born citizen.)
I am turning off all the alarms and will sleep till noon.

NYSE Chairman Richard Grasso Embracing Subcommandante FARC Commander Raul Reyes.
NYSE Chief Meets Rebel in Colombia
L.A. TIMES ARCHIVES
JUNE 27, 1999 12 AM PT
FROM ASSOCIATED PRESS
BOGOTA, Colombia The chairman of the New York Stock Exchange explained markets to a senior leftist guerrilla commander Saturday in Colombias steamy southern savanna--and invited him to Wall Street for a firsthand look.
Richard Grasso met for 1 1/2 hours with Raul Reyes of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, in the remote hamlet of La Machaca.
Grasso told reporters afterward that the surprise meeting, his first with a rebel chief, was intended to demonstrate to FARC leaders the support of the world financial community for Colombias fledgling peace process.
Stressing that his talks with a group that is on the State Departments terrorist list were strictly private, Grasso said he hoped his visit will mark the beginning of a new relationship between the FARC and the United States.
He said he explained how Colombia would benefit from the increased global investment it could expect if nearly four decades of civil conflict can be ended.

NYSE's Richard Grasso and the Ultimate New Business "Cold Call"
Lest you think that my comment about the New York Stock Exchange is too strong, let's look at one event that occurred before our "war on drugs" went into high gear through Plan Colombia, banging heads over narco dollar market share in Latin America.
In late June 1999, numerous news services, including Associated Press, reported that Richard Grasso, Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange flew to Colombia to meet with a spokesperson for Raul Reyes of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia (FARC), the supposed "narco terrorists" with whom we are now at war.
The purpose of the trip was "to bring a message of cooperation from U.S. financial services" and to discuss foreign investment and the future role of U.S. businesses in Colombia.
Some reading in between the lines said to me that Grasso's mission related to the continued circulation of cocaine capital through the US financial system. FARC, the Colombian rebels, were circulating their profits back into local development without the assistance of the American banking and investment system. Worse yet for the outlook for the US stock market's strength from $500 billion - $1 trillion in annual money laundering - FARC was calling for the decriminalization of cocaine.

Why? Cocaine? War? Power? Cash? Silly question. As George W Bush said, Money trumps peace.

(22,850 posts)The GOP, as you know, has been actively trying to recruit RW Latin Americans for decades.
They like that no-holds-barred, anything-goes brand of politics that right-wingers from South-of-the-Border have long practiced - including the use of inquisitions, kangaroo courts, and (conversely) sweetheart judges for some.
That's where Aileen comes in.
If this were Hillary, Biden, or (especially) Obama standing before her - she'd throw the book at them faster than you can say Torquemada.
And as RW judges say in Argentina: "no proof - but no doubt."

What did that one person say, somewhere? That if you can't get the work done by yourself, hire someone to help? Maybe you or I might not be able to just up and hire someone in addition to our main guys, but Trump has money and resources! Perhaps his reputation for not paying his crew proceeds him, but so what!
I wonder how long it will be before these current guys motion to withdraw. Can the Judge threaten them with sanctions for delay? This is a pattern, you know, where every motion that is filed will be followed by a request for delay. Everyone sees it and knows it.

Chutkan's minute order officially sets the date and time of the hearing for Friday August 11, 2023 at 10 am, in a direct rebuke of defense counsel's claim they were not available that day.
After a day of back and forth filings, Chutkan had ordered both parties to submit possible dates for a hearing prior to August 11th.
In a joint notice in response to the court's August 7 minute order, Donald Trump's attorneys had proposed scheduling the hearing for Monday or Tuesday of next week.
