Man who told jurors he had 'fun' at the Capitol riot is sentenced to 6 years in prison
Source: Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) — A Virginia man who told his wife — and a federal jury — that he had “fun” at the U.S. Capitol riot was sentenced on Friday to six years in prison for attacking police as he stormed the building. Markus Maly’s prison sentence is significantly lower than the punishment that prosecutors sought for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. The Justice Department had recommended a prison sentence of 15 years and eight months for Maly, a flooring installer. A prosecutor described Maly, 49, as a “lifelong criminal” with 33 prior convictions on his record, including two for battery of a law enforcement officer. But the judge who sentenced Maly noted that most of his crimes date back to his 20s. Maly told U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta that he regrets traveling to Washington and following the mob of then-President Donald Trump’s supporters to the Capitol. But he insisted that he merely “occupied space” in the crowd and denied attacking and pepper-spraying police. 2. More "fun" awaits this thug...
Six years will end up four, but at least those four will be unlike anything he’s yet experienced in his pitiful MAGAt life.
Even though the sentencing is always far less than it should be, the continuing stream if convictions and sentencing should definitely be resonating with whatever few brain cells exist in the remaining idiots who might’ve otherwise considered some kind of future violence in support of their Dear Leader. |

6. That's one year for each of his six felonies. After his 33 priors? It's not enough.

19. The judge noted most were in his 20s. He's 49.
Very common pattern, though many continue on through their 30s and 40s before leaving it behind.

10. What?
He had 33 prior convictions and this is all he got? So what if they happened in his 20s. Clearly, he learned nothing.

13. I don't think ONE judge has taken full sentencing recommendations...
…from prosecutors. Not one. Consistently and dramatically reducing the sentencing. Who cares if the majority of this clown’s crimes were when he was in his 20’s?? Look at that record!!
Case: The crackpot ‘QAnon Shaman’ got a reduced sentence and is now OUT of prison - and he’s making money off his notoriety! He bragging about it! |

18. At some point
We need to have a letter-writing campaign to these courts, telling the judges that, "you know how you sentence a black kid with a dimebag of weed?"
Do that with people who tried to overthrow the government. |
