16 South American migrants who entered US through Texas flown to California
Source: ABC News
Sixteen Venezuelan and Colombian migrants who entered the country through Texas were flown to California by chartered plane and dropped off outside a church in Sacramento, Gov. Gavin Newsom and migrant rights advocates said Saturday. The young men and women were dropped off Friday outside the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento with only a backpack’s worth of belongings each, said Eddie Carmona, campaign director at PICO California, a faith-based community organizing group that has been assisting the migrants. The migrants had already been processed by U.S. immigration officials and given court dates for their asylum cases when "individuals representing a private contractor” approached them outside a migrant center in El Paso, Texas, Carmona said. They offered to help the migrants get jobs and get them to their final destination, he said. “They were lied to and intentionally deceived,” Carmona said, adding that the migrants had no idea where they were after being dropped off in Sacramento. If the Florida voters paid for this, Democrats would be dumb not to exploit it.

4. Awful
I wish blue states could start doing something like letting violent offenders out of jail and shipping them to tx & fl. I know you can't, but this sh*t is disgusting, using people as props.

8. Kidnapping
Immigrants are cheated by their own countrymen and then kidnapped by the U.S. authorities they dreamed were better than the brutal autocrats in Central America.
Welcome to Murica, Texas style. I think the proper punishment for Texas government hooligans should be deportation the a country in Central America. With only a backpack so they can pull themselves up out of poverty and violence by their own bootstraps. |

15. Not kidnapping as legally detained. Frustrating laws.
I propose California charter a plane and send same number of Silicon Valley green card holders to East Texas to teach them some badly needed Science!
Foreigners understand the value of Science, Texas appears to be at war with education. Need some education about education. |

22. No, they were being legally detained in Texas.
The kidnapping part is lying to the immigrants that you’re going to get them jobs and green cards and then fly them off with no money, drop them off and leave them not knowing where they are. Where they are is a 17 hour car drive away from their court dates in El Paso. It’s kidnapping.

25. Mostly all true except the legal kidnapping part, and I give more credit to these, people
as self aware and aware of the politics, and where California is, as me and you.
Immigrants aren’t stupid or unaware of whats happening with American fascist politics…there is media everywhere!…and certainly any immigrant much smarter than the American evil that uses them as political props, of which they would also be well aware. Unfortunately the American media seems unable to conduct an interview with one of these people and give wise coverage…a big part of the problem…American corporate media abandoning their jobs as guardians of democracy and truth. Treating hese people anything else is presenting hem as cattle. |

12. "In my Father's house there are many mansions"
A suggestion for taking care of the migrants.
All churches, big and small should (by new law), host migrants or lose tax-free status. Small churches can host a single family. Mega churches like Joel Olsteen has should host many (many) individuals and families. Indeed, Joel has many rooms in his mansion. The USA could do much better for migrants if the nation had the tax money that the country is gifting to them now. |

14. A court date in Texas, then they are kidnapped?
So what happens when they don't make their court date in Texas? How is this legal?
Charter flights are not cheap. Who is paying for this? The taxpayers? Wouldn't that be malfeasance? There needs to be some lawsuits here, and fast. I'd love to see a class action from Texas citizens - it's likely their tax money is being used for this garbage. I should think they would have standing if their tax money is being used for political stunts. And then there's the kidnapping under false pretenses - that's gotta be a crime too. |

24. Well...the idea is that they'll be deported after missing their court dates
What will be absolutely awesome is when ICE declares these individuals crime victims and fast-tracks their citizenship.

18. Arrest the operator - Confiscate the vessel
Do we need to put federal marshals at small airports in blue states? The complete disregard for human dignity in favor of performative political bs is shocking here. The mental gymnastics going on in their brain to propagate this harassment is completely evil. We need to remember that these people are scum. Trans healthcare. Reproductive healthcare for women.. How do we stop federal funds flowing into this hell hole?
At first the Texas excuse was other states need to share the burden.. California? Really? As if they don't have immigrants? If we need to change state laws - then lets get that done. If our only clues are the vehicle and the operator, we need to hold them accountable. It may be temporary and they should get off in court, but at least it throws a wrench. We need operators and plane/bus companies to be aware of the dastardly groups kidnapping immigrants. Track the plane or bus. Use federal authorities to impound. Subpoena the contractors who arranged the transportation. Lawyers should be suing the holy buhgeesus out of the kidnappers and Texas. How is this continuing? Because they have been processed and have court dates presumably in Texas, is this some type of obstruction? At the least, we send them back to Texas. Of course we don't want to make their experience worse, but how do we stop Texas from doing this? It is just political BS. They never send immigrants to Idaho. At what point does this become an all out war vs. States? |

26. Sounds like it is DeSantis behind this...
He did the same to Martha's Vineyard, MA.
Bonta suggested that the DeSantis administration may be linked to the operation because he said the migrants appeared to have paperwork connected to Florida, though he did not provide details on the documentation. The migrants flown last fall by the DeSantis administration to Martha’s Vineyard were given pamphlets detailing the benefits available to them in Massachusetts. “We are investigating the circumstances by which these individuals were brought to California,” Bonta said. “We are also evaluating potential criminal or civil action against those who transported or arranged for the transport of these vulnerable immigrants. While this is still under investigation, we can confirm these individuals were in possession of documentation purporting to be from the government of the state of Florida.” https://www.politico.com/news/2023/06/04/california-florida-migrants-marthas-vineyard-00100121 |
