Passengers left stranded on bus after driver refuses to board because of gay rights advert
Source: Daily Mail
Passengers spent 20 minutes stranded on a bus after its driver refused to board because of a gay rights message on the side.
The unnamed driver would not get on the X78 from Rotherham to Sheffield because it bore a billboard for gay lobby group Stonewall, reading: 'Some people are gay. Get over it!'
Passengers sat and waited while the driver argued loudly with colleagues and customers.

(10,302 posts)I know a driver refusing carriage because of a particular individuals' race, religion, sexual or gender identity would be extremely frowned upon, but a driver refusing to drive a bus because of the vehicles' advertising?
Some of the passengers on his vehicle might be gay. He'd better get over it. If he has that big a problem over it, he needs to switch duties to run the minibuses that provide shopping services to rural areas on only certain days of the week. Sadly, it does come with a reduction in pay... thought I find the clientele would be more open minded to that kind of advertising on that bus the driver objects to! Yep, those minibuses will have advertising on it but not so much of the national stuff because the bus won't be getting so many eyeballs compared to a double-decker doing inner-city work.

I'm not sure it does anything whatsoever to convince people of the merits of Gay Rights but either way, it's more then a little bit petty to refuse to drive the bus because of it.
Those adverts have been commonplace for a while now so I'm surprised an incident like this has happened only this month, and halfway along the X78 route at a crowded bus station as well!
Oh, and I don't know why the Daily Fail was dignifying this by calling the bus driver a "protester", when the reality is that he's a mardy git who will almost certainly be in all sorts of disciplinary trouble over this.
